Happy with our new Nikon Coolpix S10
Whoopee! We just got ourselves a new digital camera. Check out our Nikon Coolpix S10.

Yup, it has that swivel body design that we were looking for. After using my sister’s Pentax Optio X , we decided to look for a camera that we can use to take pictures of ourselves without asking strangers to do it for us. That’s where the swivel body design comes in. You can also place it on a table and still take shots at different angles which is good for those candid shots.
I don’t want swiveling LCD’s or cameras with protruding lens. Just a compact one that we can easily carry on our trips and Nikon is well known for such camera designs.
It’s not as compact as the Optio X but it’s the next best thing as far as I’m concerned when it comes to looks. And it also takes better pictures than Optio X. It’s just a 6MP camera but I don’t care since I only set it to 3MP when taking pictures.
Aside from the swivel body design, here are some more features that we liked:
- 10x optical zoom. Wow!! I didn’t know they could have that kind of zoom in a compact camera
- Vibration reduction for those jittery hands
- 2.5 inch color LCD
- I also noticed that it has a strong Flash for those under lighted scenes
- Best shot selector (good for taking shots of inanimate subjects)
- Controls are easy to understand and the joystick allows easy navigation
It doesn’t have manual controls for Aperture and Shutter Speed but I don’t mind. On a point and shoot digital camera, I don’t want to waste time fiddling with the correct settings. I just want to compose the shot, take it and let the camera handle all the settings automatically.
I must admit though that the LCD attracts fingerprints like my cubicle does with roaches but it’s better than having a smaller screen. Handling takes awhile getting used to but I can still take pictures with one hand. So all in all, I’m very happy with my purchase. I also got a good price for a brand new one. Around 40% less than its market price at malls here.
Now, how to dispose of my first digital camera? Too bad there’s not much market for a used 2MP camera. Any takers? 90% off of its original price.
