AI Week 2 Top 10 Performances
In 70′s week, the guys clearly outperformed the ladies due to weak song choices on the part of the latter. David Archuleta’s version of Imagine by John Lennon made the boy’s night more enjoyable than the girls.
Here’s my top 10 performances for week 2.
1. David Archuleta – Imagine
This is his best performance so far and also the best for this week for both boys and girls. He had the audience (especially the girls) swooning over him. His voice is so powerful and pure yet he sings effortlessly. Clearly the pick for winning it all early this season. He got the charm, lots (I mean LOTS!) of fan support, voice and being just a kid works well for him. Let’s just see how he’ll do on the latter part of the season. Even Kelly Clarkson was impressed when she saw him sang 6 years ago.
2. David Hernandez – Papa Was a Rolling Stone
One of the nicest performance this week. His voice is not that special but the way he performed made it enjoyable for everyone watching. Excellent song choice for his part will probably make him safe for elimination this week.
3. Carly Smithson – Crazy on You
I don’t know why the judges didn’t like it. Personally, it was a good song and her powerful voice works well with it. She really knows how to belt it out but the judges noticed that she’s having difficulties with low pitches. Hope she’ll be able to fix it as she has the best vocals among the girls.
4. Brooke White – You’re So Vain
Carly Simon rocks and Brooke is safe this week with her song choice. It sounded natural on her and I enjoyed watching her perform with the guitar. Judges loved her and she’s one of the girls who don’t have a powerful voice but is charming and not boring to watch.
5 . Jason Castro – I Just Want to Be Your Everything
His performance is somewhat similar to last week including the guitar. Nice but safe and the judges want to see how he would do without the guitar. He has his looks and charm going for him but not so with the vocals. I see him as a John Mayer or Jason Mraz type.
6. David Cook - All Right Now
He’s clearly the rocker among the guys. He looked natural singing rock songs not like Robbie who tries hard to reinvent his image. He sang it well and the electric guitar is a nice addition. I really enjoyed his performance.
7. Michael Johns – Go Your Own Way
Hmmm, not a good choice of song for him but you can’t help but notice how effortlessly he sings. Powerful voice and always relaxed when performing makes him look like a pro. He’s always one of the performers to watch out for every week.
8. Syesha Mercado – Me and Mrs. Jones
Weird choice for her as the song is made to be sang by men. Anyway, she pulled it off nicely but the judges are not sold on her choice.
9. Ramiele Malubay – Don’t Leave Me This Way
Poor choice of song but nevertheless she sang it well although her performance is a bit dull. Looks like she’s not into the song but nevertheless, the judges still like her and even Simon mentioned that she’s one of the top three this season. Wow!! Can’t wait for your next performance!! Go Rame!!
10. Chikezie Eze – I Believe to My Soul
What a nice comeback from last week. Nice choice and a good performance. I don’t know if he has lots of fans to keep him from being eliminated though.
Predictions on who are the most likely to be eliminated this week
1. Jason Yeager – Long Train Runnin’
Ok vocals, ok performance. Nothing special about him ‘cept for his white streaks. He looked kinda gay with the way he danced during his performance.
2. Robbie Carrico – Hot Blooded
Let’s get rid of this pretender. Kinda hard to figure his identity when it comes to singing. Sub-par performer who needs to go. It’s either him or Luke “Orlando Bloom” Menard.
3. Amanda Overmyer - Carry on Wayward Son
The one-trick pony. Nothing different in terms of her vocal talent from last week and Hollywood week. Although she’s not boring to watch with the way she performs but it seems that you’ve already heard all that she has to offer.
4. Alexandréa Lushington – If You Leave Me Now
After a good performance last week she fared weakly this time. Not a bad choice of song either and I don’t know what’s with her getup. Hmm, probably a song for the victims of 9/11?
I really wish Kady Malloy would step up, she has a good voice but cannot seem to find the right song to sing. I hope she’ll get another chance. Same with Alaina Whitaker and Kristy Lee Cook.
