Week 1’s theme is 60’s and and I thought the boys outperformed the girls but the last 4 girl performers really did well. Simon is right, the first performance is the one that usually defines if an idol is going to make it to the Final 12. Maybe it’s the case of jitters or the flu going around but anyway, here’s my top 10 picks for the best performance for Week 1.

1. Michael Johns – Light My Fire
One of the best vocals and performer for this season. His sounds and performs like a pro and has the talent to win it all. Very suave and confident. Among the boys, he’s my top pick.

2. Carly Smithson – The Shadow of Your Smile
Not really a great performance but her vocal is the best among the girls. She makes it look easy controlling her voice even when belting. If you close your eyes while watching you would enjoy her singing. If the voting is not based on fans, she and Michael will probably be the ones who would make it to the finals.

3. David Archuleta – Shop Around
One of the fan favorites. The boy with a man’s singing voice who sings effortlessly. Though I think he’s a bit raw with his vocal techniques but I bet that he will improve as the season goes on. Being just 16 years old makes him easy to like.

4. Jason Castro – Daydream
Sang a safe song but those dreadlocks and his charming face makes him a crowd favorite. His performance is so-so, but based on his previous ones, I know he can do much more.

5. Ramiele Malubay – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me
Woot!!! Way to go Ramiele!! The judges love you especially Paula. Simon finally got himself to like you also. You did well on your first performance, very controlled and powerful altogether. Very nice!!! To the pinoys, does she sound like Sheryn Regis when she sang that song?

6. David Cook – Happy Together
Nice version of the song but too bad the judges don’t like it that much but still, you sang well. Hope you’ll choose a song that fits your personality.

7. Syesha Mercado – Tobacco Road
Powerful voice, nice personality and an unforgetful face with the doo. I didn’t like the performance that much but she sang well.

8. Kady Malloy – A Groovy Kind of Love
The most perfect Britney Spears impersonator I’ve seen. The judges didn’t like her performance and I don’t know why. She sang really well and with confidence that the other girls are lacking. I like her version of the song. It’s a serious song and I don’t know why judges want it to be fun and lively? Oh well, pick a nice and fun song next time and show them what you got.

9. Alexandrea Lushington – Spinning Wheel
Good voice and nice performance, I was surprised actually. I guess she’s gonna be just in the middle of the pack in the upcoming weeks.

10. Jason Yeager – Moonriver
The single father. I really love that song and he sang it ok. The judges are looking for something unique for that song but David played it safe. Hope he can crank it up a notch next week.

On the bubble:

Asia’h Epperson – I think the judges are just being nice to her. I know she has a good voice but her performance is not that good for me.

Brooke White – I like her version of “So Happy Together” but her performance is not that special. Her voice is not that strong compared to the other girls but not bad either. I’m afraid she won’t make it to the top 12.

Kristy Lee Cook – The most prettiest out there but I’m afraid her talent is quite limited. Her performance is so flat. I hope it’s just because of the flu and that she’ll impress the judges next week.

I’m not yet sold with the rockers Robbie and Amanda. Not the Chris Daughtry, Constantine and Bo Bice type but maybe and I hope they’ll show what they can really do soon. I have hopes for Amanda to do well but sometimes her raspy voice is getting quite annoying.

Garrett Haley, Colton “Ellen Degeneres” Berry, Joanne Borgella and Amy Davis.

Sanjaya Award

Danny Noriega gets the Sanjaya Award for this season. His attitude is very irritating and I think fans would vote for him to piss off Simon even more. His performance really sucks. Hehehe.
