David Archuleta wins by KO

After today’s American Idol final showdown between David A. and David C., Simon Cowell exclaimed that Archie wins this competition by “knockout”. The idols performed three songs and it seems that David A. took it all, especially with his final song.

The first song is chosen by music-industry legend, Clive Davis. For Cook, who went first, he sang U2′s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” which the judges absolutely loved. Archuleta’s sang Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” which Simon thought was his best song by far this season. Round 1 goes to Archie.

The second one is their own choice from the Top 10 entries of AI songwriting competition. Cook chose the song “Dream Big“, which I really dig but the judges thought was an ordinary and “lightweight” choice. David A. on the other hand, chose a more “Idol”-fitting ballad song, “In This Moment” where Simon exclaimed was the “better song”. Round 2 goes to Archie again.

The third one is a song that they personally chose. David Cook sang the less mainstream choice, Collective Soul’s “The World I Know” that the judges liked but Simon mentioned that it’s not the type of song one should sing at this stage of the competition. However, Archuleta recycled his performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine” which the judges said was the right decision and the fans clearly agreed. Round 3 goes to Archie who wins by Knockout.

So don’t be surprised tomorrow when AI will announce that David Archuleta wins the competition. Which is a good thing for David Cook. He can seek better recording deals elsewhere and I would bet that he could sell more album this way. Just take a look at Daughtry who placed 4th on the season 5 of AI but who’s album went platinum. Compared to the winner Taylor Hicks who was later dropped from his record label.

I believe good things will come Cook’s way… better than Archuleta at least.
