Why I still think David Cook should’ve lost

“I’m lookin’ for that magic rainbow.”

That just about sums it up. If you still don’t get it, that’s part of the lyrics of his American Idol coronation song, “Time of My Life“. I’m wondering what’s going on in his head when AI asked him to sing that song. It really doesn’t sound like David Cook. It would fit much better on Archuleta or even Danny Noriega.

I mean David even deliberately chose not to go the mainstream route for his final performances. Remember when he chose Collective Soul’sThe World We Know“? Simon commented that he should’ve chosen more popular ones or do a repeat of one of his best performances like what David A. did with “Imagine”.

From the pool of songwriter submitted songs, he chose “Dream Big” which is an upbeat and catchy but not “Finale-worthy” and that’s what the judges thought. David C. purposely chose that because he wants to sing his own style of music.

He conceded the championship to David Archuleta during the top 2 performances. Singing his own style and not thinking of singing what the judges, management or the fans would’ve liked. He’s ready to break free from AI but unfortunately, the voters didn’t see it that way and now we’re stuck with D.C. singing “Time of My Life” tunes.

I hope he still gets a lot of freedom for his upcoming album.
