Street Kings movie review
This movie was shown here a few months ago but didn’t really make any splash. I was able to watch this on DVD last Saturday and all I can say is… what’s up with the cast? Ok before I get ahead of myself, just a little bit about the plot.
Street Kings is about this veteran LAPD cop, Det. Tom Ludlow played by Keanu Reeves, who doesn’t obey the rules just to get things done. The type of cop that shoots first then ask questions later. It is the typical good cop, bad cop, dirty cop story that we’ve seen before in some form or another.
Ok, that’s out of the way. What I wanna comment about is the cast and the acting. The actors are so way off their roles and the acting is a bit TV-ish. Who came up with the cast anyway? It seems like I’m watching a Wayans Brothers spoof movie. Aside from Reeves, the movie is made up of the following actors:
- Forest Whitaker (Vantage Point) - The mustache makes him look ridiculous which is pretty bad for being a captain of the police force.
- Jay Mohr (Last Comic Standing) - A comedian in an action flick? Not to mention having a role of a Sergeant? What’s with the mustache too?
- Amaury Nolasco (Sucre in Prison Break) - Somehow, I really don’t see this holmes as a detective. At least they didn’t give him a mustache.
- Terry Crews (White Chicks) - This got me laughing. He plays a good, serious cop who’s also the ex-partner of Reeves in this movie. He’s doesn’t look good at being serious if you already saw him sang “Buses and Trains” in White Chicks
- Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) - Human Torch passes being a cop. I think he’s the only ok fit here aside from Keanu and Forest (without the mustache).
- Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) - Hahaha. He really doesn’t fit to be the Captain of Internal Affairs. Not to mention that his scene starts in a hospital. Hahaha, who would’ve known. His dialogues doesn’t differ from that of House’s either. But this movie role is an upgrade from being Stuart Little’s dad though.
Verdict: 2 stars out of 5. Don’t get fooled with the poster. The first 10 minutes is ok but before the first 30 minutes ends you would probably know who’s the real bad guy. Back-to-back CSI episodes would be more interesting I think.

Just bought the DVD last night. Your review makes me feel not really want to watch it =(
LOL. Since you bought it, might as well watch it. Or you can swap it with another one. I’m just telling you not to expect too much from the movie.
