Of Dichotomy and the Yellow Ericsson Phone
I just can’t seem to write anything else until I get this out of my chest. One of our friends perished on a mountaineering accident last weekend in Zambales due to Typhoon Frank along with two other climbers. His body was only found earlier today, on his 32nd birthday, washed away 100 km off from the other mountaineers.
Thads is (still not used to using past tense) one of the most unique guys I’ve met which was about 6 years ago when we both started working at this cool company. His witty, intellectual sense of humor never failed to crack me up.
He’s very good with words, brought upon his passion for reading. I remember on a team discussion during our orientation at the office, the manager was asking for inputs or comments and Thads answered him. I forgot what it was but he actually used “dichotomy” on his sentence. Bam! One of the reason why this DLSU guy has high regards for UP grads.
We used to make fun of his old phone back then. It was a yellow Ericsson R310. It looked really weird but he was proud of it. It was durable, water, shock and dust resistant, perfect for the mountain biker that he was.
Just like his old phone, Thads was built for the outdoors. He finds real joy whenever he’s on an adventure that can challenge his mind and body. Knowing Thads, he doesn’t want us to grieve on his death but be happy for him that he died doing something he really loved.
Let’s just continue to pray for the comfort and strength of the families and loved ones that Typhoon Frank’s victims left behind.
