Looking for the right hotel in Hong Kong if you’re on a budget

My wife and I are planning to spend our anniversary late this year in Hong Kong. We’re going to visit Disneyland and do the typical window shopping that most tourists often do there.

So we already booked our flight a few months ago to avail of the cheap fares. But right now, we still haven’t found a place to stay yet. Our friends say that it is best to contact a travel agent to provide land arrangement but I had to try the power of the internet first so I can get an idea of the hotel rates.

First, we decided on some parameters.

  • I want the cost of our 3-night accommodation not exceed the price we paid for our fare.
  • My wife wants it to be near the shopping district.
  • We want it to be near the train station and different fast food restaurants.
  • Having airport service is a big plus for us, free breakfast too.

With that set, I went to hotelscombined.com which is a site that aggregates results from different online hotel-booking sites. The results include hotel details, rates, photos and reviews so you never have to leave the site.

I plugged in our accommodation details and was quickly able to find the rates (in Philippine Peso, talk about convenience) of different hotels. I also found out that some booking sites offer cheaper rates than others. Good thing Hotels Combined has those info.

So after browsing for a bit, here are our choices:

Kowloon Hotel. Located within Tsim Sha Tsui’s Golden Mile, this hotel is near everything… KCR Station, Star Ferry, shopping malls and they have shuttle going to and from the airport. It’s cheap as well if you book with HotelClub. Whoops. Kowloon Hotel is a 5-star hotel so its expensive. The one listed in HotelClub is Kowloon Hostel.

Bridal Tea House. This one’s in Kowloon and is near Mong Kok which is a good place to buy cheap stuff on their night market. My friend stayed here and they say the place was nice. More expensive than Kowloon but is still within the budget.

Evergreen Hotel. Also in Kowloon and walking distance from the Night Market and Jade Market. The place is kinda old but the rooms are kept clean and tidy. They also serve breakfast but don’t expect too much (dimsum and other oriental food mostly). People say that the place is perfect if you’re on a budget.

So there you have it. If you have any other hotels that you could recommend that is less than Php 3k per night, please let us know.

    Window shopping….. Hmmmnnnn…

I window shop best when I have no money. When I have money, shopping seems to lose its “window” aspect.

I find the URGE IN URGENT.

Calv, Mr. kuripot… este matipid…your budget is ok, but i suggest you increase it a bit naman. Para masarap ang breakfast. If not there’s always the local 7-11. Masarap ang dimsim nila!

Outlet haven.. hehehe.. go to that outlet mall in Tung Chung (Citygate Outlet).. kinda secluded (and far) from everything else pero accessible kasi its right there sa MRT station.. sobrang worth it! :)

calvin: sige! we’ll definitely try that one out. Thanks for the tip!
