Christian the Lion

Sorry I wasn’t able to post anything yesterday, got a nasty cold that made me drowsy all day. Anyway, do you know Christian the Lion? I saw the clip about a month ago but didn’t know the story behind it and was amazed when I later found out.

There’s this two friends, John Rendall and Ace Berg, who purchased a lion cub named Christian at Harrods in 1969 and raised him at the basement of their furniture shop. For about a year, Christian became a popular local figure until he grew so big that they had to move him into a more suitable environment.

They were referred to a conservationist in a Kenyan Reserve, George Adamson, to look after Christian and rehabilitate him to the wild. On 1974, the two friends decided to visit Christian and see him one last time even though Adamson told them that they might not see him because Christian already had a wife and a pride and they finally settled into the wild.

Anyway, I highly recommend that you watch this clip of their visit complete with the cheesy background music.

Hmmm, I wonder what it takes to purchase a lion as a pet these days.

Also saw this video a few weeks back. There’s a version of that video showing Christian’s wife also being friendly to Christian’s owners even though they’ve never met which is not normal lion behavior.

This video made me miss my cats. :(

calvin: yep i saw that one too when Katiana (Christian’s wife) also approached and Rendall and Ace and let them pat her.
