Exploit the Olympic Fever to Drive Traffic To Your Blog
If you want a huge burst of traffic on your blog, posting about the 2008 Olympics is a great way to do it. This works well on personal blogs since you can write just about anything.
Post about interesting topics or news about the Olympics.
Hot topics would be the US Basketball team or the Aquaman himself, Michael Phelps. Even just posting about the schedule of the US Basketball team got me an additional 500 views per day until the match is finished.
Post match schedules of the athletes from your country.
Not everyone has the time to navigate through the Olympic web site and look for schedules of a particular athlete. Since my sister in Beijing has access to the Bird’s Nest, I asked her to compile the schedules of all the Filipino athletes and post it in her blog.
This brought regular traffic to her site and will continue to do so for the duration of the Olympics. Her 2-month old site managed to get an average of 1 thousand hits per day compared to the 50 hits a day before the Olympics started. Posting about news and results of your country’s representatives can also bring daily visitors to your site.
Do note that this is only temporary but even if you could only manage to get a couple of regular visitors after the Olympics is finished, I think it’s worth it.
