Got my PageRank bumped by Google
Google made some PageRank updates last month and I’m glad mine got bumped back to 3. Actually, it was 4 during my first few months but it went down to 2 maybe because I did a few paid posts.
So what is PageRank for anyway?
Well, higher PageRank ensures that your posts will appear on the first few pages in Google’s search result and this is what advertisers are looking for if you’re going in that direction.
A PageRank of 3 is quite decent for newbie bloggers like me and I have to thank WordPress.com for that. They take care of your SEO and helps you with site promotion. I think Google likes WordPress.com because they do not allow codes or scripts on their blogs and this discourages most link selling sites that Google hates.
My sister’s site, Claudine’s Beijing Diary, also got a PageRank of 3 even if it’s only about 3 months old. Maybe it’s because of the quality links (ehem) going to her site and also being under WordPress.com.
Does a higher PageRank translate to high traffic?
Well in a way yes since people tends to visit your site if it shows in Google’s results. But you also have to write or post about things that people tend to search to get that benefit (try googling ‘What does R5 mean’ and my site will show up as #2).

You also have to update regularly so Google will crawl your site more frequently.
For continuous daily traffic though, nothing beats having some blogger friends to visit your site on a regular basis. If you don’t have enough of them, make some by searching for other blogs that shares your site’s theme and post comments on them.
