How I Removed the Windows XP SP3 Activation

My Windows XP Home just finished downloading and installing the SP3 file. After I restarted my PC, I was greeted by the following icon:

activation-icon-systray

Uh oh. If I can’t activate or crack this WPA in 30 days, I would not be able to log in to my machine anymore. I tried the crack I used for SP2 but it won’t work with SP3. So I began searching the net but most hacks I found will just disable the alert but not the 30 day countdown.

Finally I found a crack (ANTIWPA-V3.4.6 FOR X64 AND X86.zip) for SP3 on torrent sites. I’m very careful in using cracks on my machine so before I download the file, I made sure that my PC is clean by doing a full virus scan. Once it’s done, I downloaded the crack and extracted the contents.

Note: If you don’t want to mess with torrents, you can download the file here. Don’t worry I didn’t alter any files. Update: Ziddu has been down for quite a while so I also uploaded the file on Sendspace.

My AVG alerted me of a trojan virus on one of it’s file (checksys.exe). I’m not alarmed though. Most cracking files whether it’s for a game or a software are always tagged as a virus by AVG so I went ahead and ran ANTIWPA3.CMD to patch my Windows. Before I restarted my machine, I deleted all the crack files so AVG will stop pestering me with alerts.

One of our readers suggested that you only need to copy ANTIWPA.DLL from the zipped file into your Windows/System32 folder then go to Start > Run and type “regsvr32 antiwpa.dll“. Haven’t verified this but it wouldn’t do any harm to try.

One of our readers cleaned the zipped file so there’s supposed to be no risk of infection. I uploaded the file here (Ziddu) or you can get it from here (MegaUpload). Thanks Marton!

Time for the moment of truth. I restarted my machine and did another full virus scan. I also did my checklist for detecting if my PC is infected by a virus by checking for:

  • New files in Windows system folders
  • New and odd processes that appears on my task manager
  • Autorun.inf files on my drives
  • Startup processes via msconfig
  • Startup processes via regedit

All is clean. I typed oobe/msoobe /a on the run command and voila,

Windows is already activated.

The crack worked and I can now enjoy SP3 where I noticed a bit of speed improvement especially during startup. Thanks to CW2K for creating the crack.

Hope this post helped you guys who are figuring out how to remove the WPA. Of course, piracy is illegal. This is just for educational purpose, hehehe.

If this worked for you, please let others know by leaving a comment.

I tried this on XP Pro SP3 and it works, however I have not gone beyond the 30 day limit yet.

MalwareBytes however keeps saying that antiwpa.dll is/contains the I.Stole.Windows trojan.

We’ll see, I’ll give it a few days.

well hopefully it works, but I do know that most if not all antivirus apps detect cracks as trojans. Happens to me all the time esp with games. If you have not noticed a slowing of yr pc, an increased amount of popups, or magically appearing files you should be okay.

just get a windows xp pro corp …. no crack needed or in ur install cd go to i386 folder and in that folder look for setupp.ini file and change the pid value to pid=518883270 and save it and now burn the xp cd and use a vkl key :) happy days no activation needed only if u where ganna re-install the os but if u wanna crack it dam good luck with that

    Update:

AVG 8.5 reports both the DLL as well as winlogon.exe as infected by HackTool.GEC.

ComboFix unregisters the DLL as well.

Now I think the main question here is: is this WPA workaround a virus or not?

Sorry to say, but it does not seem a 100% safe ….

  3. onymous says:

If you are getting the “[file] is not an executable file and no registration helper is registered for this file type” error, you probably copied the dll from the wrong folder. You need to copy the one that is compiled for whatever computer architecture you have. If you don’t know what that means just try following the instructions with each of the three dlls. I got that error myself and it took me a second to realize what was going on, but when I moved the right dll it worked fine.

What a garbage, useless fucking site.

A fix like this is only worth a shit if it is virus free, and Calvin I suspect u know more about any of this than u let on.

Prove you are not trying to spread malware by taking down this fraudulent page!

PS fuck microsoft also for making it come to this. I have a legit windows that I am locked out of because cmos battery died and screwed up system date now WGA WPA bullshit thinks I am a pirate.

Treat the good guys like bad guys == how u get people to go Linux.

    • Louis says:

.. Okay, this thing does have virus’s.

as soon as i installed it, it started giving me ads and shit.

      • Calvin says:

yeah some people are reporting they are getting virus but some don’t. i doubt though if the ads are from the crack. or maybe it has no effect with firefox or chrome or IE6. i placed a Tip there if you want to activate it without running the exe file.

  7. Louis says:

I installed this a while ago, and well, after logging in today after 12 AM i was asked to activate within 7 days.

i typed oobe/msoobe /a in the run command and it says it’s activated now.

    What the hell?

  8. Marton says:

The file IA64\Checksys.exe on the zip is a trojan or some kind of shit. It installs some dhjdjfdffd.dll on \windows\system32 and replaces msoobe.exe with some trojan, too (and renames the original msoobe.exe to msoobe.com)
So make sure you delete IA64\checksys.exe before applying if you download the original file posted above and it will work, or download this one, which I cleaned myself:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MJPZIMOH
(Notice the 10KB size vs 70KB of the one published here, hey Calvin, this doesn’t talk good about your site!)

calvin: i posted an instruction on how to apply the patch without using checksys.exe. I don’t want to edit the original zipped file because it’s how I got it (from torrent). As I kept on saying, some people didn’t have any problems with it because virus so I don’t know maybe my anti-virus caught it in the background. Anyway, thanks for cleaning it up, I’ll upload your file to Ziddu because some people are having trouble with megaupload.

At first I had tried an number of different cracks, none of which worked. Then I tried running this over the top and it seemed to half work, but I still got a popup on login saying I needed to activate (can only be dismissed after 5 seconds), although everything else worked fine.

It was pretty damn annoying and I had just done a fresh install anyway so I formatted, re-installed, ran this crack (virus free version) and so far everything seems to be fine! Excellent stuff

I used the copy/paste + regserv32 method on a XP Pro SP1. Seems to work. Will know for sure in 26 days from today =P
