My Sassy Girl (US remake) movie review
My Sassy Girl is a western adaptation of a Korean hit movie with the same title. I already watched the original version years ago so I may be a bit biased writing about this US version.
The story is basically the same.
There’s this simple, ultra nice guy, Christian, who happened upon this drunk, pretty girl (Jordan) that passed out on the subway. Since he can’t bear to leave the girl on the subway, he decided to bring her back to his dorm. Charlie later found out that Jordan is a bratty, aggressive and complicated gal that wants to turn his life upside down… but still, he enjoyed being with her.
Anyway, as their relationship grew, Jordan is having second thoughts if they are really meant for each other. So she asked Charlie to write her a letter about his feelings for her and she will do the same. Then she placed their letters inside a time capsule which she buried under a tree that they will read a year later. I’ll stop here to avoid spoiling the ending.
My thoughts?
New York is a poor choice for the setting. Although the scenery is quite picturesque, it became a fairytale when all the people were suddenly nice. If you call a black girl working in the subway who allowed you to use her PA system rat-face, you’d get slapped and kicked out of the booth.
The casting is a bit off too. Charlie is played by Jesse Bradford (Bring It On) and Jordan is played by the hot Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door, Captivity, 24) but sadly, they absolutely have no chemistry. Aside from that, the guy should not be a hunk. It’s quite unbelievable that a handsome guy would bother putting up with a bratty chick who is not even his girlfriend. There’s no character build up.
Most of their antics are pretty lame and overly played. Charlie’s letter is quite a letdown considering the buildup it got before Jordan read it. The only saving grace is the beautiful ending of the story (not the movie) that my wife sadly didn’t get because she wasn’t paying attention at the beginning of the movie.
My wife haven’t seen the Korean version yet and she said that the movie was ok. But if you haven’t seen either version yet and planning to only see one, I highly recommend you see the Korean version so the beautiful story won’t be wasted.
Verdict: 1 out of 5 stars. I was just curious how the US remake would turn out. It sucked.

talaga?? geez! ulitin ko na lang yung Korean version.. hehehe!
i haven’t seen this one, the Hollywood version. I got to see the Korean version last 2004 and I instantly loved it! I even had a DVD bought in Taipei the same year.
Na-curious tuloy ako sa US version. I have this feeling that it’s not going to be as great as the Korean version kasi unang-una na dun yung cultural differences. Pero sige, for the sake of comparison, I’ll go see the US version.
hehehe hindi talaga ok. boring yung movie until the part where the guy read the girl’s letter. yun lang ata yung ok eh kasi i already know the ending.
You know what, your idea seems right. There has no thrill for the Sassy Girl remake but I guess the movie and the stuff deserves a chance. Let’s just try and watch how it will go. Then we can judge after the movie, what do you think?

i agree with everything you said. i actually got bored and forwarded some scenes of it, what I really didnt quite appreciate was the mountain scene, which actually made emphasis on the korean movie, which they changed in the us version.
sobrang naging mababaw tuloy yung meaning nung scene, badtrip. hehehe
calvin: hehe sayang yung storya diba?
