Stay away from Globe Visibility Prepaid
Last month, my uncle bought a Globe Visibility Prepaid Kit for his guest so she could chat with her fiancé on her laptop. Anyway, my uncle asked for my help because his guest cannot login to her Yahoo! Messenger although she could surf the net and check her mails.
So when I got the laptop, I tried changing the connection preference of YM into firewall with no proxy. I was able to log in but promptly got disconnected after a few seconds. I tried Meebo and I was able to access my YM account and chat away. But when I tried testing meebo’s webcam feature, I cannot receive or send a broadcast.
I thought maybe there was something wrong with the YM or webcam installation so I hooked it up on our WiFi network and test YM again. I was able to connect without any problems and was able to broadcast a webcam as well (also worked in meebo).
It’s definitely not the laptop nor the YM installation. I can only get GPRS connection at my place so I thought maybe it’s the connection. So I told my uncle to bring it to a Globe Business Center and have them test the YM there. Well it seems that even in Makati, it’s hard to get a 3G signal and they still can’t make Yahoo Messenger or the webcam to work and the Globe representative told him there might be a problem with the laptop. Grrr… I hate it when support guys thinks that the people they’re talking to are always idiots that they can lead to whatever answer they come up with just to make them leave.
Meanwhile, I browsed the TipidPC forums for solutions and this is what I found out:
- The Visibility Prepaid version only allows you to use HTTP so that’s why YM doesn’t work but Meebo does. It is not listed on Globe’s site but I think that’s the case since a lot of people are having the same problem.
- They also have problems with bandwidth so they are implementing something that makes web site images not to display at 100% quality (pixelated). What the?!
So for those planning on subscribing to a mobile internet connection, stay away from Globe Visibility Prepaid! It just plain sucks and customer support are always acting dumb whenever they receive the same queries and has the canned reply of forwarding the request to technical support who will take their time to contact you, if you’re lucky that is.
If anyone has solved the YM problem, I would really like to know how they did it even though my uncle already returned the unit and switched to Smart instead.

thanks for the article, i’m about to get the prepaid kit…
calvin: yeah… better look at other options.
Hi. I just bought that. I agree it sucks.
Can I return the unit?
when you said you’re uncle switched to Smart, do you mean the prepaid one like Globe Visibility Prepaid? If it is, how’s the Smart one doing? ^^
thanks for the article..
Point your DNS IP to OPEN DNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 so that the website you want to open is not pixelated. If you leave your DNS (obtain automatically), it means that instead of downloading and displaying the website content to your browser directly from webserver, Globe will compress first the content before displaying to your browser. And it takes longer time to reach your screen.
your definite about that…it really sucks..and it’s just a waste of money…i’m planning to return this incompetent product and switch to a better one…grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
calvin: yikes 4 month old na yung post ko di pa rin nag-improve service nila. bad.
How about the postpaid Globe Visibility? Same problem?
I’ve already purchased the globe visibility and really sucks. I just waste my money, I thought that if I buy it it will make my monthly bill lower instead, Its better to use my nokia 6120 classic at YM than this bull shit globe visibility.
I hope some could find the way to use this product at with webcam at YM.
Hi,
I agree. We were subscribers of Globe broadband before and used it for our internet shop. We experienced 2 weeks of no connection in a month. This caused or regular customers to look somewhere else and unfortunately lose the business as well. The experience was a pain in the ass! We hate globe and never paid for it no matter how often legal notices was sent every month. Wonder if they ever thought of improving their service when we had the bad experience before, I will never pay for a service we never received. Damn them
For me Globe Tattoo works fine to others globe tattoo has a worst service. But it ends up to one thing, your location.
From my home at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Sudb. Bagbag Novaliches signal is always HSDPA. But using it in Muñoz area it always fall on GPRS only and connection is really slow……
SmartBro (prepaid)on the other hand is really slow at El Pueblo, Kingspoint Subd. Bagbag Novaliches. But haven’t tested this yet in Muñoz area.
I’ll try SUN Broadband next to check and finalize which I will subscribe on….. Because I’m using SUN on my mobile and its always on full signal at home.
calvin: hey thanks thanks for this info!
Just an advice for those who want to avail of wireless broadband, test them all sa mga area na madalas kayo pumunta o tumambay.
Test GLOBE, SMART, SUN. After doing your test, decide on what TELCO you will choose may it be SMART, GLOBE or SUN since their service are wireless
I’m sure their service will vary depending on the area of coverage and where you will test them.
I tested GLOBE, SMART, SUN at work, home and place where I used to stay most of the time.
And my test result tells’ me to choose SUN BROADBAND WIRELESS.
