Bangkok Dangerous movie review
It’s been a while since my wife and I went on a movie date. Actually, this was our first time to watch a movie in a theater this year so I was pretty excited. We chose Bangkok Dangerous after often seeing its cool trailer being shown on AXN. I thought it was going to be another movie like Next which was light but nice.
Before I comment on the movie itself, here’s a brief synopsis. Nicolas Cage plays a professional assassin that is very careful and leaves no trace whenever he leaves a country after a job. However, in Bangkok during a series of jobs, he took in a local errand boy to train as a student, something he has never done. He also fell in love with a deaf, local pharmacist along the way for good measure.
As usual with almost all hitman stories, there has to be this job where the hitman refuse to kill the target so the only option is to take out the one who hired him.
Now that’s out of the way. I have to say that the movie suck! It was a waste of money for us. After seeing Lions Gate Entertainment at the beginning, I thought to myself… wait aren’t they the one who did those old Kung Fu movies? Uh oh. Even the film grade that they use is poor. Just like watching a movie during the 90’s.
The plot is weak, the acting is poor, the pace is boring, and the love story doesn’t fit anywhere. You also have to endure Cage’s silly hairdo the whole time.
If I only knew that it would be a Nicolas Cage doing a Steven Seagal or Van Damme type of film, we should’ve watched Eagle Eye instead. Even Cesar Montano could fit in the lead role no problem. Kudos to them for bringing in Nicolas Cage to lure the moviegoers in. How about the trailer? It was awesome right? Well those are the only highlight in the movie.
The movie poster also claimed that they were the #1 movie in America for the first weekend in September. I checked IMDB and indeed they were… with a measly $7.8 million! Just to compare, the following weekend was topped by Burn After Reading raking in $19.1 million.
Sorry for sounding grumpy. Just wasted money on a movie that I wouldn’t watch even if it’s shown in HBO.
Verdict: 1 out of 5 stars. Watch it if the only other option is watching paint dry.

I’ve also watched this movie and I agree it is not a good movie. It is just there is nothing new, and there is no twist. I think moviegoers always wanted to see something of a twist in the story, not just the effects. It ends up just like any other assassin movie.
calvin: i thought it would be something like Wanted. This is bad for Nic Cage.
right now, wala pa masyado magandang movies. i haven’t seen a movie trailer that’s exciting….
just another over hype movie… tsk tsk…
I’m sure Eagle Eye is much better. Although Eagle Eye is nothing fab either. It’s a repeat of other movies with super computers going bad.
calvin: yeah… no good movie out there recentlyy, tama si katrina… maybe burn after reading.
