It’s been a while since I last read a book. After I got my PSP, my Palm Zire went into dust-collecting mode. It’s the only gadget I use to read books that I download off the internet.

Fortunately, I was able to borrow a couple of nice books from my mother-in-law last week. But unfortunately, I was able to finish both in a week and returned it back.

First book was The Afghan by Frederick Forsythe. It’s a very nice fiction that tells about the war on terror. It gave a nice background on the Gulf War (Hussein) as well as the War on Iraq (Bin Laden).

I understood how the Taliban came to be and even the muslim terrorists here in the Philippines were a critical plot to the story. It seems that Al Qaeda terrorists are funding the Abu Sayyaf to be a safe haven for pirates from Malaysia and Indonesia. Hmmm, is there some truth in that?

Next book is one of the newer series of fiction from James Patterson. He’s one of my favorite authors and all his books seems to be always on the bestseller list.

Co-authored with Michael Ledwidge, Step On a Crack tells a story of a detective left with 10 adopted kids by his wife who just died. Meanwhile, a group of hostage takers hi-jacked the funeral of the First Lady in New York. Among the hostages were the president, mayor, and a lot of A-list celebrities. How did they do it? How did they manage to escape? Read the book to find out. It’s a real page turner.

Now I’m out of books. I’m thinking of buying a digital book reader instead. Or I could just stick to my Palm Zire. To all book lovers out there, would you consider buying a digital book reader?
