Dairy products in which melamine were detected
Most of you have heard by now about the news where babies all over China are getting sick with urinary stones (4 already died) due to melamine poisoning from contaminated infant formula.
Melamine is an industrial chemical used in glues, adhesives, molding components, etc. They were added into dairy products to cheat its protein measurement.
Fortunately, the Center for Food Safety in Hong Kong has been diligently checking dairy products coming out of China and they’re constantly releasing their results on their site.
One milk brand that was found contaminated with melamine that I see in our supermarkets is Yili, which has a number of milk products. There’s also a Pure Milk from Nestle that is used in catering. For a complete and updated list of products that were already tested positive for melamine, click this PDF link.
Adults are less likely to get sick due to the low intake per body weight as opposed to infants but still, it’s usually better to err on the side of caution. Get Jolly Cow instead, much cheaper. Hehehe.
Update: Whoops, some of the Jolly Cow milk came from China so be wary about that.
