5 popular TV shows this fall that lost its appeal

Sometimes there are shows that could go a long way for many years without losing its appeal to the audience before its final episode. Think of Friends or The Sopranos. But there are also shows that started really strong but somewhere along the way, there’s a season or an episode that is really disappointing. Like Lost for example.

Anyway, Yahoo has this interesting article that lists 5 TV shows this fall that’s an example of shows that started strong but eventually sputters out before it ends.

1. Heroes

heroes3

First up is this show about ordinary people with extraordinary powers. Back in 2006, I was among those millions of viewers who were hooked up on this show. The character building was great and all the powers were amazing (maybe not the split-personality one).

Where did it went wrong?

I just saw Season 2 a month ago and although it was good, it failed to continue the excitement that Season 1 brought. I was particularly disappointed at the power of siblings Maya and Alejandro. It’s just terrible and it’s good that Alejandro died already. I haven’t seen Season 3 yet but I hope Maya won’t be an integral part of the story.

2. America’s Next Top Model

Next on Yahoo’s list is Tyra Bank’s own model search reality show. I had to admit that I get to watch cycle’s 1 and 2 (because my sisters always watch them during dinner) but after my sister left for the US, I lost interest on the show.

Where did it went wrong?

I’m not familiar with Cycle 11 but Yahoo said that it all started there.

Cycle 11 began with the Js in metallic jumpsuits inviting the wannabes into a warehouse they referred to as the “Top Model Institute of Technology,” where the girls got their poses scanned (photos taken) just before the cardboard “Glaminator” malfunctioned and expelled a “Tyrabot.” The show was so busy with its tricks, fans barely got to size up the competition. In a later episode, Tyra throws on a tiara and re-enacts a cock-eyed version of Snow White (with the Js in full costume) just to announce the upcoming makeovers.

3. Prison Break

prisonbreak

Ahh, everybody was hooked with the tattooed structural engineer genius Michael Scofield and his plans to break out his brother from prison. This was a truly brilliant show but the producers just don’t know when to pull the plug.

Where did it went wrong?

The start of season 2 was ok but when they ended it with Scofield back inside a prison (Panama this time), it was just too much for most viewers. Now that Sara’s back from the dead and T-bag just won’t die, the show’s becoming a joke. I’m still following it though but just to see how it ends. Hope they’ll wrap it up this season.

4. Project Runway

Same with ANTM above, I watch this fashion designing reality show before while my sister’s still here. Lost track of it afterwards.

Where did it went wrong?

Yahoo said it started in Season 5…

When they kicked off Season 5 with a repeat challenge from Season 1, the lack of creativity was immediately apparent (in both the contestants as well as the show’s producers). And once the show rolled out the Saturn cars (a sponsor of the show) and asked the contestants to design something using car parts.

5. Hell’s Kitchen

hellskitchen

This is renowned foul-mouthed chef, Gordon Ramsay’s reality show looking for the next big chef who will be given a shot to run a real-life restaurant kitchen. Frankly, I’m not a fan of this show and Gordon Ramsay’s constant swearing but some of my friends are.

Where did it went wrong?

Shortly after Season 3, FOX began promoting the fact that Season 4′s winner would be executive chef of Gordon’s first restaurant in Los Angeles, proving that chef Ramsay had complete confidence in the talent set to graduate from the upcoming season. Except, by the time the season ended, the grand prize had become a “senior chef” role, meaning Gordon would NOT be putting the reality show winner in charge of his Hollywood kitchen. So we gotta ask: were viewers duped as part of a marketing ploy?

There you have it. If you follow those 5 shows, do you agree that they lost its appeal for you? If you want to read the original article from Yahoo, here’s the link.

i still love heroes and curious on the development for the other characters like Wes, and of course I love Ali Larter – so really curious as to whether she survives. I try to watch Project Runway and ANTM like everyone but I’m so stuck in last season. I still like Prisonbreak but I do wonder if they’ll just keep sticking him in jail as to remain faithful to the show’s title.
I like Hell’s Kitchen as a pc game better. (“.)

calvin: i really hope they’d end Prison break. tama na talaga. hehehe. Hell’s Kitchen PC game?? you get to play as Ramsay?! hehehe.

i have to disagree with yahoo about heroes. The 3rd season is awesome! gone are the boring moments and scenes that plagued the 2nd season. it is very fastpaced and storylines that you think will drag through several episodes are suddenly resolved in the next episode. And you actually get to root for sylar! :)

calvin: so you really think MAya and Alejandro’s power are cool? i’ve also been hearing a lot of positive comments on season 3 and i can’t wait to do a marathon once it’s finished.

  3. Claudine says:

I enjoyed season 1 of heroes but season 2 disappointed me that I stopped watching it altogether.

calvin: try mong tapusin, maganda raw season 3

aww di ako mahilig sa tv shows ng america pero i do love watching asian tv shows haha. off-topic ba? sorry :D

nga pala, my contest ako, baka gusto mo sumali :D check my blog po. thanks!

calvin: ahh betty la fea lang gusto mo? pati iisa pa lamang? hehehe. sige sali ako sa pakulo mo. hintay ko lang may mga sumali pang iba. napansin ko 1-3 hindi nabubunot sa random.org eh. :P

  5. Kiko says:

nope i dont think maya and alejandros powers are cool. they are part of the problem of why season 2 sucked. thankfully although maya is still in season 3 she plays only a minor part and from what happened on last weeks episode we will probably never see her again.

calvin: that’s good news indeed. maybe the writers heard the reaction from the fans and decided to cut Maya immediately.

  6. Mys says:

Nope. Ramsay still mouths off at you all the time. It’s more of a dash game which until now evades my clicking prowess. You control the waiter and cook ingredients. Cool thing about the pc game is you get the recipes of very famous dishes.

Heroes Season 3 is so much better. Actually, sobrang exciting na sya ngayon coz you don’t know na talga sino kalaban and sino hindi. And yes, Maya is still there but minor role lng naman so far. I still like Prison Break coz now, it’s no longer about breaking out it’s about Scylla so in effect, iniba na nila ang storyline. Except of course they’re doing it to gain freedom. And last Project Runway… tapos na sya but I always watch it coz if you have favorites na sa mga reality shows, you can’t help but watch everytime to see if your bet wins – Leanne did. At the same time, I watch Kenley’s bitchy moments and waiting for her to get kicked off hehe.

calvin: pero pag hindi pa rin natapos yung prison break after this whole scylla thing ayawan na talaga.
