5 TV shows you don’t want to miss this quarter

Been kinda busy the past few days with work and blogging that it’s a bit hard to find time to watch my favorite shows. Luckily, my wife also enjoys watching the same shows that I like so it really doesn’t affect the time I spend with her.

Here are 7 shows that I’m currently following that you don’t want to miss (if you’re an ordinary guy like me).

1. Fringe (Sci-Fi, Mystery)

fringe

From the creator of Lost, Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, etc). All over the world, a series of apparent experiments collectively referred to as “the Pattern” are occurring for reasons unknown.

Why I like it: Admittedly, I’m not a fan of X-files so I’m a bit skeptical if I would enjoy this one. After a few recommendations from friends, I watched the first episode. From the first few minutes where all people aboard a passenger plane mysteriously decomposed into skeletons just as the plane landed, I was hooked. It’s like X-files with matching scientific explanations. Pretty neat stuff for a science nerd. I highly recommend this.

For the ladies: What’s with girls and Joshua Jackson?

2. Entourage Season 5 (Comedy)

entourage Entourage is an HBO original series created by Doug Ellin that chronicles the rise of Vincent Chase — a young A-list movie star — and his childhood friends from Queens, New York City as they navigate the unfamiliar terrain of Hollywood, California.

Why I like it: Lots of babes! Hahaha. Vincent Chase and his entourage are back. After bombing his make-or-break movie on Season 4, Vincent took a break from showbiz. But his pal Eric decided that its time for him to make a comeback and that’s what I want to see. Oh yeah, Jeremy Pivey is really really good!

For the ladies: I think the ladies would enjoy this as much as men loves watching The Hills, One Tree Hill and 90210. Hehehe.

heroes3. Heroes Season 3 (Sci-Fi, Drama)

Heroes tells the stories of disparate and ordinary individuals from around the world who inexplicably develop superhuman abilities, and whose lives become gradually intertwined as they each find themselves in a similar path to save the world.

Why I like it: I really enjoyed the first season of Heroes but still haven’t seen any episodes from season 2. It’s one of those series with a lot of character development and I have a lot of catching up to do.

4. Prison Break Season 4 (Crime, Action)

After engineering a daring escape from the hellish, Panamanian prison Sona, brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows are determined to seek justice against The Company, the shadowy group responsible for destroying their lives and killing the woman Michael loves.

scofieldWhy I like it: After watching all three seasons, I just want closure from this series. It’s taking too long but I hope this would be the final season as they plan to take on The Company. The hurried plot and planning is kinda disappointing though. Oh yeah, Dr. Sara Tancredi is back and the new villain is cool!

For the ladies: For some reason, women finds Michael Scofield and his brilliant mind sexy.

5. The Mentalist (Crime, Drama)

Starring Golden Globe Award nominee Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.

mentalist

Why I like it: This is not the street magic series with the same title. I haven’t seen a single episode yet so I can’t say that I like it yet but people at the office are talking about it so it must be interesting. Seems like a crime drama version of House.

There you have it. So what did I miss?

This post is getting long but other shows that I’m also following and would recommend are Chuck (season 2), Dexter (season 3), and House (season 5).

Woot! Weekend TV marathon is back.

I love love love House. I have all 3 Seasons in DVD and I’m waiting for the 4th one to be available so I can get my hands on it. :-)

calvin: seen season 4 already or you’re waiting for the DVD? pareho pala tayo, we wait for the whole season to finish tapos marathon na.

  2. Crish says:

I watch all these shows except for Mentalist… he’s the guy sa Devil wears Prada diba… na wei-weirdohan ako sa kanya kaya I didn’t watch it… hehe… but anyway, dapat nasa top 5 ang Gossip Girl… hahaha… baka Tia will agree with me… hehe. Ay, back na din ang Smallville… if hindi ka pa sawa… :)

calvin: hehe entourage ang kapalit ko ng gossip girl. anong season na ba ang smallville? 43?

  3. Kiko says:

The mentalist is more like a serious version of PSYCH than house. Dont you watch Supernatural and Bones? both shows are also good. Sarah Connor Chronicles is also great but sadly will probably be cancelled this season. :(

calvin: i’m not fond of supernatural. haven’t seen an episode of bones yet even though it’s shown on local tv. probably not that much hype about it.

  4. Claudine says:

dami ko nang na-miss na episodes.. my top 5 are CSI, CSI:NY, House, The Closer, Ugly Betty and Medium. Downloading na silang lahat ngayon sa bahay.. hahahaha

calvin: nood ka na lang sa hulu.com. yung fringe download mo rin.

i like the mentalist! better than psych although their style is almost the same.

  6. Entourage is a very clever series, every episode is very witty and the character Ari is so watchable.
