Nokia 6300 or Nokia 2630?
I finally got a new phone after losing my beloved Nokia 6300 a couple of weeks ago. It’s a white Nokia 2630 which is my second choice for a Nokia phone after seeing one from my cousin.

Although not as powerful as the 6300, I don’t want to spend on expensive phones if I’m just gonna lose it so I just bought the 2630. I believe this phone comes free if you subscribe to a Sun Cellular plan.
I think the 2630 is the stripped down version of the 6300. Here’s why:
Form factor
They almost have the same size but the 2630 is lighter at 66g compared to 91g of 6300. The 2630 is also slimmer at 9.9mm as opposed to 11.7mm of the 6300. The 6300 looks more solid and feels sturdier though. The 2630 is a bit toyish to the touch but it still looks sleek.
Display
I’m gonna miss the vibrant and large display of the 6300 with its 16M colors at 240 x 320 pixels. The 2630 has a puny 128 x 160 resolution with only 65K colors even though there’s still room for a bigger display based on its design.
Memory
Both phones can accommodate 1000 entries on its phone book. The 2630 has a larger user memory at 11MB while the 6300 only has 7.8MB but it also has a microSD slot if you need more memory, which I don’t.
Sound
Sound quality of the 6300 is very good that you can also use it as an mp3 player with a memory card. For the 2630, well what can you expect from a cheap phone? You can only put a couple of mp3′s with its built in memory so don’t bother. I’m gonna miss my custom mp3 ringtones. Both phones have FM radio.
Data Connection
Both phones have Bluetooth but the 6300 also has a mini-USB port for easy connection the the PC. You can’t put a lot of files on the 2630 anyway so they didn’t put a USB port.
Camera
Yup! Both have cameras and can also record videos. The 6300 has the edge though with its 2 MP, 1600 x 1200 capability while the 2630 only has a VGA one for a 640 x 480 photo. I think the camera is just an added bonus for the 2630.
My suggestion?
I would still definitely go for the 6300 if I’m not concerned with the cost. It’s still a very popular phone right now and its price hasn’t come down that much for over a year now.
But I’m not complaining with my 2630 either. I want my phone sleek and slim and not that heavy. It’s a very stylish phone for teenagers that won’t break your wallet. It can also serve as a very decent secondary phone that has all your basic needs. It feels slower to respond than the 6300 but it’s just something you’ll have to get used to.
I’m a simple person when it comes to phones. As long as I can text or call with it, it’s fine with me but I also have a taste for well designed phones that I share with pickpockets.
I’m fine if this would be the last phone that I will own. If you’re planning to steal it, I’ll be carrying it on my left pocket and it’s so light that I won’t even feel that it’s gone.
Hehehe.

nokia2630 is better than the nokia 6300
calvin: nah i still like the 6300 better. been using 2630 for a while and its response from key presses is a bit sluggish for my liking.
