Taken movie review
Just had the chance to watch the movie Taken last night with my wife and we really enjoyed it. It’s definitely one of the best action movies I’ve seen in quite a while thanks to Jhed’s recommendation.
It’s not a well-publicized movie from the writer of The Transporter series so not many people know about it. It stars Liam Neeson (Love Actually) who is not really well-known in the action movie genre but he fit the role in the movie perfectly as a father who is determined to save his daughter.
Taken tells of an over-protective father (Bryan played by Neeson) who was estranged from her daughter Kim (played by Maggie Grace of Lost) after working for the government as a spy. Actually the term used in the movie is “preventer”. Anyway after retiring, he wanted to restore his relationship with his daughter who’s already living with her mom and stepdad.
After allowing her daughter to go to Paris with a friend (with much hesitation), he received a call from her daughter that she and her friend are being kidnapped. He rushed to her aid using all his knowledge and skills to track down the gang of human traffickers. To complicate things, he doesn’t trust the french government who eventually tried to hunt him down as well.
The action is non-stop (think of the Bourne series) and Neeson’s performance was great in the fight scenes. Quick, brutal and efficient taking out the slave traffickers to the point that you might think he’s Rambo. The story is not that complicated so you don’t have to do a lot of thinking but just enjoy the movie.
Verdict: 4 out of 5 stars. Your dad would probably thank you for sharing this movie with him.
