How was your blog the past year?
To all my blogger friends, was 2008 a good year for your blog? Were you able to sustain writing for it? Would you agree that blogging is not for everyone? I know a handful of people whose posts dwindled down or even came to a halt due to not having time for blogging.
I am fortunate enough to still have the passion for blogging and saw a great deal of growth for my blog in terms of readership and posts.
Some of you know that I switched to a self-hosted domain at the end of September. I left WordPress.com with around 76,000 hits from January until late September.

Monthly hits ever since I moved out of WP.com
For the remaining of the year with my own domain, I was surprised to still be able to reach 63000 total hits.
Not bad for 3 and a half months and 76% of those visitors came from Search Engines. Average time for my visitors is around 2 minutes which means that they do read my posts.
If you’re wondering what my top pages and searches are, here it is:
If you’re gonna remove the Logo game pages from that list, the next top posts are my Amazing Race recaps and Ilocos travel guide.
I must say that there is growth happening in my blog. I hope it would grow more this year. If you’re not experiencing the same success, don’t feel bad as most of my posts are for readers.
If your blog is more of a journal or a diary then you shouldn’t care for the number of hits. Also don’t feel obliged to write daily as long as you don’t abandon it for a month before writing again.
I hope you don’t lose the passion for blogging. It can be quite fulfilling to see it grow and sometimes you just want an outlet where you can share your thoughts or knowledge to the public.

Buti pa si Calvs.. ako di na masyado nakaka-blog.
calvin: hehe dapat nga nakakablog ka pa kesa saken kasi mas marami kang time.
wow congrats! i can’t say the same for myself. pero ok lang, at least the passion is still there.
calvin: yup, as long as you’re enjoying writing on your blog!
Yeeee! Ang dami mong bisita!
To me 2008 was a year for me to learn blogging. I started, then stopped, then started again. And the self-hosted thing is the best thing that happened to me.
Hahabol na rin ako sa mga nag-ooptimize sa SEO. yay!
calvin: good luck sa 2009! naprepredict ko magiging successful yang self-hosted blog mo. hehehe.
I just started a blog this year that was an off-spin of some writing I had started to do for two on-line publications. I figured that I had to keep the original content somewhere. I feel that I am running out of ideas, kind of torn between posting my own thoughts, and writing reviews of music and movies. Any advice? You’ve got a nice blog, very professional looking and it looks like Google has been able to recognize you, which was one of the things I’ve wanted to achieve but haven’t.
Hi Clarence, thanks for the compliment. This blog is a mixed bag type but most of my posts are made for the readers instead of simply just my thoughts. I cover a lot of subjects and not all would be interesting to a passerby but I don’t mind. I have lots of friends reading this blog so they would know what’s on my mind although I really don’t write much about personal thoughts. Maybe watch or read the news and voice out your opinion on that particular topic.
but if you’re looking to write something that would be noticed by Google, it’s all in the title. If it’s a how-to post, make the title similar to what a person would type on the search box. of course if the topic is too saturated (lot of people are writing about it), you might not get the SEO results that you want.
This reply is getting too long, maybe I’d write some tips on how I write posts. Hope your blog will grow this year. Just remember not to be disappointed if it’s not, that’s pretty common especially for less than a year old blogs.
Uy! musta po? hehe, I’ll answer your blog title’s question..
Link Ex? just tag me.
oo nga eh parang nabalitaan ko nga yung problema ng domain name mo. sige i’ll just updated your domain on my ling page. thanks for dropping by.
