Slumdog Millionaire movie review

I just finished watching Slumdog Millionaire during this lazy Sunday afternoon. This has got to be the best unassuming film for 2008! I find it even more better than Juno and August Rush which were the 2 best not-so-popular movies for me that I’ve seen last year.

slumdogmillionaire Slumdog Millionaire is a screenplay adaptation of a book by Vikas Swarup entitled Q & A and is directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, The Beach). It tells of a story of a teenager born in the slums of Bombay who joined Who Wants To Be A Millionaire hoping that his childhood sweetheart will see him on TV.

I really don’t want to spoil the whole story but it starts with a couple of policemen torturing him because they couldn’t believe that a boy from the slums could answer all questions up to the 10 million rupee one correctly.

I assure you that the story is not that shallow. Fans of the book will say that the movie is way much better. Not to take away anything from the concept of the story but the way it was adapted in film was better than the way it was written.

Everything about this movie is gorgeous and fits perfectly. From the unknown actors (kid version to the teen version), cinematography and even the soundtrack. The bollywood dance right before the credits is pretty amusing too.

The movie is filmed in India and some of the language used is Hindi (with subtitles) while the English ones have Indian accent but don’t let that discourage you from watching this gem of a film.

Verdict: 5 out of 5 stars. I kid you not, you will feel good after watching this movie. Please watch this film and let me know if I’m right.

Like you, I saw the film this afternoon. This was my second time. I agree with you that it is a great film. I liked the bit about Connaught Circus being in london and the logic given by the Jamal (the protagonist) for getting the right answer. I found the Taj Mahal scenes memorable…

Thanks for the well written review

calvin: actually even the scenes from the slums on how it was captured was pretty captivating. it’s really one great movie in all aspects.

In the slums. I agree totally. There was an aerial shot of the homes with just one gap… which showed the kids running. This was out of the world.
