American Idol 8 Top 36 – Group 2 Recap and Predictions
Well group 2 was better than group 1 in my opinion although there were some disastrous performances as well.
Hear what the contestants chose from the Billboard Hot 100 of any year.
1. Jasmine Murray – Love Song by Sara Bareilles

She seem to have the “being the first to perform” jitters as her notes were all over the place. Judges weren’t impressed with her performance and Simon was disappointed. Next year maybe.
2. Matt Giraud – Viva La Vida by Coldplay

I expected big things from this guy but his performance was just horrible. Lots of quavering tunes there and that falsetto turned out bad. Kara wasn’t blown away by him and Paula had a hard time saying something good about his performance.
3. Jeanine Vailes – This Love by Maroon 5

That was… bad. Really bad. Only thing that she got going for her is her nice long legs. Hehehe. Simon said it was the wrong song for her and it was simply terrible and painful. I know there are better girls than her who didn’t make it through Hollywood. I’d rather have Jenisis take her spot.
4. Nick Mitchell – And I Am Telling You from Dreamgirls

I was hoping he would do a different song this time. Anyway, he’s not a terrible singer but I think he’s in this competition to entertain and not to win and it’s best for all that he won’t make it into the Top 12. At least he’s the most memorable and entertaining one at this point.
We’re now 0 out of 4.
5. Allison Iraheta – Alone by Heart

After 4 disappointing performances, 16-year old Allison brought it with her rendition of Alone. I remember the song for being the last one Ramiele Malubay sang for AI last season. She was simply great and she received Simon’s blessings saying that she may be the one to watch out in this competition.
6. Kris Allen – Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson

Nice ending. Kris didn’t get a lot of screen time and many people including me weren’t expecting him to be this good. Although Kara said that it was the wrong song, Paul and the other 2 judges disagreed with her. Simon said that although Danny’s the better singer, Kris got great presence. I’m thinking that he’s the Rick Braddy of this group. Good but unknown.
7. Megan Joy Corkrey – Put Your Record On by Corinne Baily Rae

Wow. What a nice, fun song that really suited this tattooed girl even though she kinda oversang it near the end. Judges liked her with Kara saying that she could be a break out with the right song. Her tattoos might hurt her chances though.
8. Matt Breitzke – If You Can Only See by Tonic

I didn’t like his song choice although he sang it really well. His performance was plain and boring. Simon hated the song and said that it didn’t suit him but Matt strongly disagreed. Guess it’s one of his favorites.
9. Jesse Langseth – Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes

I liked the song but it really can’t show your range. Jesse sang it ok but it was not that exciting as Randy put it. She’s got good voice though and I hope she can sing again on the Wild Card round. Simon thinks that she’s forgettable.
10. Kai Kalama – What Becomes of the Broken Hearted by Jimmy Ruffin

It’s an ok song and his performance was not bad either. However, Simon said it was corny and not memorable while Randy said it’s a safe performance. I agree with them.
11. Mishavonna Henson – Drops of Jupiter by Train

Weird song choice but I have to say that she sang it really well although the judges weren’t that impressed with her performance. Simon said she act like a 50 year old and Randy agrees. Still a great voice though.
12. Adam Lambert – Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
What a great way to end the show with another great performance from Adam. I was really impressed with his range. Paula was standing and clapping during the whole performance. At the end, she said that she’s watching the Adam Lambert Show and not AI. Simon said there were parts that were excruciatingly bad but there were also brilliant ones. Randy loved it though saying it was the bomb.
Predictions

Clearly Adam Lambert would be the number one vote getter among the males. It seems that females rocked this group more than the males. Based on performances, joining Adam would probably be Allison and Megan.
Matt Giraud or Kris Allen have the best chance to be on the Wild Card round.

mas gusto ko yung 5th, 6th and 7th performer.. Adam was ok pero di ko type yung the way he changed the music. performance-wise he’s good.
so it’s Adam, Allison and Kris. I actually like how he did “Man in the Mirror”.
calvin: hehe ni-spoil niyo na.
wah. but i agree with your bets calvin. over loyalist na ba? i caught a replay i think. hahaha.
calvin: haha. hindi naman halata
ey, di ko napansin… what happened to danny gokey’s friend? kala ko pasok sya sa 36…
