Top 36, American Idol’s new format
After watching last night’s episode I was surprise that American Idol is gonna have 36 contestants to advance in this season. Clearly there are mediocre singers out there who you wouldn’t think twice of voting. And the judges shouldn’t be forced to split it into an even 18 (male/female).
NEW FORMAT
According to their site, the new format will have the 36 contestants divided into 3 groups. One group will sing and be voted on per week. For each group there will only be 3 contestants to advance, top male, top female and the next top vote-recipient.
Then there will be a “Wild Card” episode where judges will choose those who they still think deserve a chance to be on the show to battle it out for a spot in the next round. I think 3 contestants will advance from this episode to make the Top 12.
Of course they had to separate Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert and Matt Giraud/Anoop Desai so that they couldn’t eliminate each other. I think Anoop will get the most votes or the second most votes in his group so he’s safe even if he’s in Danny’s or Adam’s group (clearly the top 2 contestants for now).
JOANNA PACITTI DISQUALIFIED
In case you don’t know, Joanna Pacitti is out and Felicia Barton is in. According to AI, Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition. People say that it’s most probably her ties with 19 Management (one of the companies involved in Idol) was the reason she got disqualified.
WHY AI WHY?
I think most fans of the show will agree with me that they wasted a slot on Tatiana. She’s just sooo annoying and it will be unfair if she gets through just because she’s not plain and boring. She can sing but there are other girls who got cut but can sing equally or better than her. I would prefer Frankie “Amy Winehouse” Jordan over her.
There’s also Nick “Norman Gentle” Mitchell. AI is really losing its credibility by getting Nick who I think sings just ok but makes it up with his antics. Jamar should’ve gotten his spot instead.
I feel sorry for Jamar Rogers. I think it’s because of his association with Danny Gokey that the judges feel that he can’t make it (compared to Danny). Always riding in Danny’s coattails. He’s way better than a couple of guys in the top 36.

calvin: yeah everybody’s been going on about Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert but they’re forgetting about Matt Giraud. I’m gonna watch out for Matt. I think he’s gonna be one of the top 5 contestants this season.
