American Idol Wild Card Round Recap and Results
Whoa! What a surprise we had here. Initially we thought that they would be singing the same song during the semi-final round because it would be unfair to those who would come from Group 3 having only 1 day to prepare. Turns out they have the option to sing new tunes for the judges.

There’s another surprise in this round but you’re gonna find out about it near the end of this post unless you’ve already seen the show.
So here’s a recap of the performances of our 8 wild card contestants:
1. Jesse Langseth – Tell Me Something Good by Rufus and Chaka Khan

I like her choice of music. Randy finds it interesting but wasn’t impressed and Simon revealed that she’s the last-minute addition to the group. I wonder who’s spot she took.
2. Matt Giraud – Who’s Loving You by Jackson 5

The blues for Matt is back and he really did a good job with it. Based on judges’ reactions, he’s definitely in. No surprise there.
3. Megan Corkrey – Black Horse and The Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall

I’m really digging this girl. She’s fun to watch and she’s smart in picking her songs. The judges like her and Simon and Randy even liked her originality and song choice. Just what AI needs as Kara puts it.
4. Von Smith – Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word by Elton John

Well he sang his heart out but the song is a too serious. Simon says that he’s beginning to be a bit boring. Randy agrees.
5. Jasmine Murray – Reflection by Christina Aguilera

I’m still not a fan. Her lows doesn’t sound right and some of her highs are a bit strained. Randy thinks that the song is still big for her but Kara was surprised to find that she has a big voice. Simon’s backing her nonetheless.
6. Ricky Braddy – Superstition by Stevie Wonder

That was fun. Kara and Paula were glad the he loosened up. Simon however, said the song was a bit lightweight and the performance was clumsy. Randy said it wasn’t the right song for him.
7. Tatiana del Toro – Saving All My Love For You by Whitney Houston

Same song during Hollywood Week. Boring. She’s back to her chirpy and annoying self imitating Jorge’s accent. Simon commented that they heard her sing that song 3 times already and was wondering how she’d fare if given a different song.
8. Anoop Desai – My Prerogative by Bobby Brown

It’s the same song he sang during Hollywood Week but it wasn’t aired much. The audience loved the performance and Paula was glad that she did the same song again. Randy said it was better than his Hollywood Week version.
Surprising Results
So who made it through? After a short break the judges made their decision (or was it pre-decided?).
First to advance was Jasmine Murray. I don’t know why they really want Jasmine there. She’s so generic for me and won’t offer much to the Final 12.
Ricky Braddy was called next but Kara told him that he won’t be going to the Final 12.
Next up were Megan and Tatiana. Megan Corkrey got the nod much to Tatiana’s disappointment as she started crying in front of the judges. Woot! We need somebody unique in the competition and Megan brings it.
Jesse and Von were called one after the other and were told that they didn’t make it although Simon said that Jesse “nearly did”.
So that leaves us with Matt Giraud and Anoop Desai. It’s already past their time so Ryan quickly announced that the 12th spot belongs to Matt Giraud.
But wait there’s more!
After Matt’s name was announced, Simon told Anoop Desai that they recently decided that they’re gonna make it a Top 13. So Anoop is in to his surprise.
What a way to end the show!
