The evil that is Facebook

I know there’s a reason why I didn’t join the Friendster or Multiply bandwagon years ago. It will just take too much of my time updating it, looking for old friends and acquaintances, catching up, etc. Besides, I have my blogs to keep me busy when I’m online.

Anyhow, my wife got into Facebook far much longer than I am and I wasn’t able to resist the urge to sign up just a month ago. Big mistake! I now spend more time on Facebook than on my blog. I even had the Facebook app installed on my iPod Touch so I could check on it even when I’m away from my PC.

Here’s just a few things on what’s keeping me busy with Facebook:

  • It started out with just a friend. Then a friend of a friend and more common friends starts inviting you and it will never stop as long as you keep on clicking “Confirm”.
  • Updating my status and checking out friends’ status.
  • Commenting on notes and photos and whatever the “comment” link has attached itself to.
  • Mafia Wars. Oh I have to wake up early so that I can maximize the energy to do jobs on this Facebook game. Then there’s also Mob Wars, Vampire Wars, Dragon Wars, and Fashion Wars (no I didn’t sign up for that one) invites popping up.

I haven’t started bothering myself with those links, photos, videos, groups and fans feature yet. I have to control myself or else Tia will lock me out of the room one of these days. Hehehe.

What is it with the allure of these social networking sites anyway?

Add me up! I’ve a facebook accnt. :-)

I guess the reason why people are hooked into these things is because we don’t have much time or the luxury of time to get together as much as we want to due to everyone’s busy schedule. And what better way to get in touch with each other than over the internet super highway. Since we can’t bond with our friends and family physically, we find ways to still be with them. :-)

calvin: added you! yeah i guess it’s an easy way to keep in touch with friends you don’t regularly see.
