American Idol 8 Top 7 Recap and Prediction

Sorry for the late post folks, just got home from a vacation. Anyway, tonight’s theme is “Songs of the Cinema” and their mentor would be none other than master movie director, Quentin Tarentino.

To speed things up after running out of time for the past couple of weeks, the judges decided to only have 2 of them giving comments per contestant.

Let’s get it on with the recap. (links point to their video performance)

1. Allison Iraheta – Don’t Want to Miss A Thing by Aerosmith

Allison did a good job opening tonight’s show with her version of the song. Paula says she’s authentic and compares her to what Adam Lambert brings to the show. Simon thinks she’s the girl’s only hope in the competition. Not a fan of Lil Rounds there.

2. Anoop Desai – Everything I Do by Bryan Adams

Hate the song but Anoop sang it well. Quentin told him to rough it up which doesn’t fit well with Anoop’s smooth voice. Good thing he didn’t follow it. Hehehe. Randy liked it and Kara felt connected with his singing.

3. Adam Lambert – Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf

Adam’s back to doing rock and roll and Quentin’s excited to see what he comes up with. Wow! He really played with the song and the crowd was ecstatic and Paula can’t stop jumping out of her seat. Simon says some will despise his version of the popular rock song.

4. Matt Giraud – Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman by Bryan Adams

Another Bryan Adams cheesey song and it was not a good night for Matt. Some of the notes were off and Randy noticed it and says it wasn’t one of his best. Kara agrees. I’m sensing bottom 3 here.

5. Danny Gokey – Endless Love by Diana Ross

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

There’s a harpist playing beside Danny which is a nice touch but overall, it was bad. In the end he says the song meant a lot to him. Simon was disappointed with the harp and his traditional version.

6. Kris Allen – Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Wow! Loved his performance. I could imagine it actually being used in an OST. Randy wasn’t impressed though saying it was pitchy all the way. Kara disagreed. She says it’s one of her best moments and Paula cheers her for saying that.

7. Lil Rounds – The Rose by Bette Midler

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

She got great vocals but she can’t seem to pick a kickass song to save her. Paula didn’t really say anything about Lil’s performance. She just rambles on about the song and its lyrics. Simon still wasn’t impressed and it looks bad for Lil.

Prediction:

Lots of cheesy songs tonight and I didn’t enjoy the show as much as last week. Best performances of the night goes to Adam Lambert and Kris Allen and maybe Anoop Desai.

Worst performance will have to go to Matt Giraud with Danny Gokey at close second although I don’t think Danny will make it to the bottom 3.

My bottom 3 prediction will have to be Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds and Anoop or possibly Allison just because both of them does not having enough fans.

Everybody may be saved by the judges ‘cept for Lil Rounds I think.

Ugh, I hope your prediction will not come out tomorrow.

Lil Rounds doesn’t interest me anymore.. hehe :) She’s slowly going out of my mind.

calvin: i hear ya! Lil never impressed me yet throughout the week. either it’s a bad performance or a mediocre one. I’d rather watch megan than lil.
