Facebook makes an employee more productive

Is that true? Well according to a study from University of Melbourne, workplace Internet leisure browsing which includes Facebook and YouTube sharpens worker’s concentration.

People need to zone out for a bit to get back their concentration.

Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf of the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a days’ work, and as a result, increased productivity.

- Brent Coker, Dept. of Management and Marketing, Univ. of Melbourne

Somehow I agree with that statement. I admit that I use Facebook at the office and it’s my perfect 2-minute break every time I accomplish a certain work task. So when Facebook got blocked from the office, I know a lot who got disappointed. Good thing they unblocked it after a few hours.

Take note though that the study looked at people who browsed in moderation and if done too much, it will most likely lead to lower productivity.

What’s your take on this?

one last tip sa FB poker…

whenever you see a Big Dog or a Shark, invite them to be your buddies. most of the time they would want you to be theirs as well since you can add a $100 worth of chips every 24hrs to each of them – and vice versa. ;-)
