How to play NES games on your iPod Touch
Yes, you can play your favorite NES games such as Mario Bros., Adventure Island, Punch Out, etc. on your iPod with a NES emulator. Read on if you wanna know how.

First, here are the things that you need:
- Jailbroken iPod Touch / iPhone (with firmware 2.21)
- NES Emulator (need WiFi for this)
- NES games (ROMs in .nes format)
- DiskAid to transfer your ROMs to your iPod
NES Emulator
1. To get the NES Emulator, you need a WiFi internet to connect to Cydia.
2. Click Search and key in “NES” or just browse through the letter “N”.

3. Choose NES (from BigBoss) and install it.
Update: If you’re on firmware 3.0 already, chose NES 3 instead.
Where to get NES ROMs?
So you got your NES Emulator installed, now let’s look for ROMs of your favorite games. My favorite place to get ROMs is from The Old Computer. Very easy site to use. No need to sign up or anything and downloading files is a breeze.
I’m gonna go ahead and download Super Mario Bros. 1. Save and extract and you should have a .nes file.
I suggest renaming the file the way you want it displayed on your iPod.
Transfer ROMs to your iPod
Ok so you got your games and hopefully you stored them all in one folder. It’s time to transfer them to your iPod. But first, you need a tool called DiskAid. Download and install it.
1. Plug in your iPod Touch and run DiskAid.
2. Go to the Media Folder.

3. Right-click on it and create a folder called ROMs (case-sensitive).

4. Right-click on the ROMs folder and create a folder called NES.
5. What you do is drag all your ROM into the NES folder then exit DiskAid when you’re done.
Enjoy playing
Now you can enjoy playing NES games on your iPod Touch. Run your NES app then select the game you wish to play.

Yeah yeah, it’s hard to play when all those buttons are close to each other especially if you have big fingers but hey, it’s still cool!

Hey i was having same problems as the above folks until i reailzed that the folder i created in DiskAId was called ROMS instead of ROMs (lower case “s”)…this allowed my ipod to read the ROM file under the nes folder and all was well! Hope this helps! -Markus
Thanks man. Didn’t know it’s case-sensitive. I’ll put that in the guide.
great post man, one question though. Would there be an issue if I just install NES from big boss and not the NES 3 even if I’m already running on firmware 3.1.2? NES 3 needs to be purchased and, of course I would like first to see if I can play NES games on my ipod for free.
Unfortunately, NES won’t work with the new firmware. I’ll search for what other alternatives we can get.
Sir, any updates yet on where I can get the NES 3 Emulator for free?
sorry man. can’t find any free nes up anymore. there are gba emulators for the iphone but it’s quite complicated to make it work and not all roms work.
Where would one find the NES ROMS? I’ve recently been searching google and i can’t find any websites with ROMS
uhhh the site is included in this post if you read the whole thing. it’s under the section, where to get NES ROMS.
Works great thanx, and for the big finger thing, just tilt it sidways still a bit tough but hey still playing some of the worlds best games…
