Imelda Marcos in Newsweek’s greediest people of all time
When I heard this news last week about Imelda Marcos being included by Newsweek on their list of greediest people of all time, I got curious on who are the others included.
There are 11 people in the list with more than half already a part of the history books. Imelda got into the group along with the oldies likes of Marcus Crassus, Genghis Khan, Pope Sixtus, William Vanderbilt, William Tweed and Empress Dowager Cixi.
Wow, she must be really somebody to be on that list. Well if you got a word coined after your name (Imeldific) that means “ostentatiously extravagant” then I guess you should be on that list.
Here’s what Newsweek had to say about Imelda Marcos:
She saw it as her duty to provide “some kind of light, a star” for the impoverished Filipino people over whom her husband presided. So she took $5 million shopping sprees to New York and Rome, reportedly owned the world’s largest collections of gems and 3,000 pairs of shoes.
What?!?! $5 million shopping spree? How many Hermes or Choos can you buy with that money? And why am I familiar with those brands? Hahaha.
Rounding up the list are Ivan Boesky, Dennis Kozlowski of Tyco International and the most recent, Bernard Madoff.
On a recent interview, in her defense, Imelda said that she was responsible for beautifying Manila during her husband’s reign and she also put up lots of hospitals and schools.

I bet she’s proud of it. Ugh
wow. greediest people of all time. it’s creepy.
To her knowledge, she didn’t do anything wrong. *sigh*
Well, i wish she’s my lola so she can bring me along to her lavish shopping sprees.
I was disappointed arroyo is not among the list!
calvin: hehe arroyo may be greedy but she doesn’t flaunt it like Imelda did.
