Vacation getaway: Kawit, Medellin, Cebu
Nope, that’s not 3 destinations. It’s where our grandma’s rest house is located in Cebu. To be more exact, the place is in Nipa, Mahawak, Kawit, Medellin, Cebu. It’s not a tourist spot with resorts so I won’t be writing a guide here. The place is beautiful nevertheless hence the post.
Most of you already know that my wife and I spent our Holy Week vacation there and it was very relaxing. We spent our time, swimming, eating and sleeping. Hehehe.
A lot of things has changed since I last been there more than 15 years ago. The road is now paved, the beach is well maintained, they have cable TV and the house is much much better overall.
Our place
Our house is around 30 paces away from the beach so we can swim any time that we want.

We also have this 2-storey kiosk facing the beach located in a lot in front of our house. This is a nice place to be during siesta time. You can doze off while enjoying the sound of the waves and the fresh sea breeze. We also have meals here from time to time.
The beach

See the dark patch near the shore? Seaweeds.
The sand is not that fine but it’s light-colored. Also, there are weeds near the shore so it’s not an ideal place to hang out to play in the sand.

The light-colored patch after the weeds is the sandbar during high tide.
The best part at the beach is what the locals call the “bonbon”. It’s a long stretch of sandbar with fine light-gray sand that is about 3 meters away from the shoreline. This is where we usually head out to swim.

This is what the sandbar looks like during low tide.
During low-tide (early morning and afternoon), the sandbar appears in the middle of the sea and you can wade towards it and enjoy the fine sand and the soft waves.

It’s very picturesque and you can spend the time here playing with the sand, skim boarding or just taking pictures while waiting for the sunset.
Things to do

Visiting Polo Island for a swim
As for activities, our uncle takes out his leisure boat and we head towards the nearby island to swim. Or sometimes we just anchor in the middle of the sea where the water is deeper and cooler and swim around.

Kayaking in calm waters. The island in the backdrop is Polo Island.
There’s also a single-person kayak available which is a nice workout early in the morning when the sea is calm.
Getting there and accommodation
It is not accessible by bus (Ceres) directly so you have to ride a jeepney then a pedicab or a tricycle to get there. It’s about 3 hours away from the city.
As for accommodation, I think there’s a place in walking distance from our house (Kiwi Lodge) where you can stay. I think the house beside ours can also be rented out.

It’s really a beautiful place now that I would want to visit again. I wish I could bring my friends here and share the place with them.
UPDATE: Here’s a place where you can stay when in Kawit, Medellin, Cebu. Palms Inn Bed & Breakfast.
