American Idol 8 Top 4 Recap and Prediction

Tonight’s theme is Rock and Roll and I’ve been talking about how this bodes well for Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert.

For the first time, there’s also going to be two duets from Danny and Kris and Adam and Allison. The last performance of the night is simply amazing by the way.

AI is going to be strict this time not allowing our contestants to rearrange the pieces drastically. Ouch for Kris Allen who’s strength is rearranging songs and make it suit his style.

Guns ‘N Roses guitarist, Slash, is the mentor for tonight. Cool!

Let’s get on with the recap. (Links will point you to a video of their performance)

1. Adam Lambert – Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin

First time an LZ is sang in Idol. Adam admitted that this is his favorite theme. What can you expect? He got the whole rock star look going on and he’s really comfortable rocking it out on stage.

Randy wants him to be a rock star when he makes a record. Kara says he is not a rock star but a rock god! He’s a whole lot of perfect for Paula. Simon says it is one of his favorite performances that he’s done considering that it’s one of the best rock songs of all time. He says that the problem is nobody can top it now.

2. Allison Iraheta – Cry Baby by Janis Joplin

She got the rock star look tonight from Adam’s hairstylist. Slash suggested that she do Cry Baby instead of Somebody to Love and that’s what she did which turned out really good for me.

Randy didn’t love the song choice and it wasn’t great for him. Kara says Janis is the right choice for her but suggested a different song. Paula thinks she’s downright fearless and she fits Joplin. Simon was impressed on how she progressed throughout the show although he also didn’t like the song choice.

3. Danny Gokey and Kris Allen – Renegade by Styx

This is one of the first duets of the night and I didn’t see any chemistry between the two. Kris sounded off.

Randy loves their harmonies. Kara says it was strong when they sing together. Never mind Paula’s comment. Simon simply says that Danny sounds better than Kris.

4. Kris Allen – Come Together by The Beatles

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Kris really wanted to do a Beatles song and he almost peed his pants when Slash loaned him his guitar during practice. I’m surprised that he kinda held down his ground on this performance although the instruments really drowned his voice.

The judges doesn’t expect too much from Kris tonight. Randy liked his song choice and complimented him playing the guitar. Kara didn’t like it and thinks that he’s trying too hard. Paula says he needs more energy. Simon didn’t like it that much and compared it to eating ice for lunch leaving you nothing to remember afterwards.

5. Danny Gokey – Dream On by Aerosmith

He’s the only one not sporting leather tonight. He has a powerful voice but his stage presence is not as great as that of Adam. I like his choice but that scream at the end is absolutely hard to the ears. He’s gonna lose with that scream.

Randy says it’s alright and not that great. Kara thinks he took the swagger thing a little too far. She commended him though for taking risks. Simon says the last note/scream is like watching a horror movie but he still thinks that Danny’s gonna be safe. Overall, the judges didn’t like it.

6. Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta – Slow Ride by Foghat

Wooo. I heard this song from playing Guitar Hero and loved it. Adam and Allison sounded really good and they looked like they both enjoy singing together. What a great performance to end the night.

Randy says it was the bomb and that they should record a rock song together. Kara brought out the rock god comment again and added rock goddess for Allison. Paula says they are a perfect blend and totally in sync with each other. Simon says Adam may have given Allison a chance to stay in the competition.

Prediction:

I doubt if there’s gonna be a bottom 3 tomorrow night but if there is only Adam will be safe. He has the strongest performance tonight as Simon mentioned. Allison was great too in their duet and this is what people will remember about her tonight and they will vote for her because of it.

That leaves us with Danny Gokey and Kris Allen. Kris performance was ok although a bit safe while Danny ruined the night with his scream at the end.

bottom2

Danny who’s the only one left not being at the bottom 3 will probably stay so I have a strong feeling that it’s going to be Kris who’s going home tomorrow night. I think that’s ok with him so he could start recording an album pronto.
