Echelon Conspiracy movie review

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought it would be a cool spy-thriller film similar to Eagle Eye. How wrong I was.

ecehlon The premise for this Echelon Conspiracy is pretty interesting. Max Peterson (Shane West) is a computer security engineer that somehow received a nifty looking mobile phone. He started receiving text messages from an unknown sender giving him tips on where to go, how to win at the casino, which stocks to buy and things like that.

So who’s sending him those messages? That’s what he’s trying to find out when things got messy. He’s joined by an ex-FBI turned casino security officer (Edward Burns) and an FBI agent (Ving Rhames) as they try to uncover the mystery behind the one sending the instructions.

The acting is ok although some of the lines are really cheesy. The storyline is bad and has more holes than the Titanic. In the first few minutes, he demonstrated how he was able to shut down a data center by just hitting an open electrical outlet with a belt buckle. Huh? Haven’t they heard of UPS?

Recalling the movie made me think how silly it was for us to sit through the whole thing. The ending, particularly the gunfight, is really, really ridiculous. You have to see it if you don’t believe me. Hehehe.

Verdict: 1 out of 5 stars. I gave it a one because the trailer made us watch the movie. If your only other option is to watch grass grow then you might want to consider seeing this film.
