More questions about the movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Just watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine with the wife and I pretty much enjoyed the movie. I personally like the opening scene when Victor and Logan fought side by side in different wars from the Civil War, the two World Wars up to the Vietnam War.

wolverine Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber (from the movie, Defiance) did an amazing job with their characters as Logan and Victor. Taylor Kitsch as Gambit reminds me of Willy Wonka. Some of the CGI effects are subpar and somehow I got the feeling that this movie was rushed but still, it was enjoyable for me.

I’m not going to review the film any more because it’s one of the blockbuster movies this year. Instead, I compiled a list of questions about the film and its characters and researched the answers over the net.

So here are some questions that you might ask yourself after watching the movie.

Are Sabretooth and Wolverine brothers?

Short answer: No.

In the movie, Victor Creed and Logan were portrayed as brothers when Victor’s father told Logan that he is his son. But they are not, instead they just grew up as brothers.

wolverinesabretooth

From the Origins comics, a guy named Dog Logan is the role that young Victor played in the movie although Dog is not believed to be Sabretooth. Also from the comics, Wolverine’s real name is James Howlett and just like in the movie, he’s the one who killed Victor’s father with his bone claws.

If you check the casts in IMDB, young Victor is also known as Dog. However, Wolverine: The Origin’s writer Paul Jenkins didn’t confirm or deny that Dog and Victor are one.

Who are those cool bad guys headed by Stryker?

They’re a bunch of black-ops CIA agents called Team X which is part of the Weapon X program. The team was featured in the animated series and was initially made up of Logan, Victor Creed, Maverick, Kestrel, Mastodon, Silver Fox and Deadpool.

In the film, Team X consisted of Logan, Victor Creed, Agent Zero (sharpshooter), Bolt (electricity manipulation), Fred Dukes (The Blob), John Wraith (teleportation) and DeadPool (the loud one).

Who’s the black dude Nightcrawler wannabee?

His name is John Wraith and is also known as Kestrel from Team X (see above). His mutant ability is teleportation just like Nightcrawler.

In the movie, he is portrayed by rapper will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.

What is Agent Zero’s power? Can do tricks with gun clips?

David North or Agent Zero (played by Daniel Henney) actually possess an ability to absorb kinetic energy and channel it as blasts of energy. Think of Gambit’s power. Unfortunately it was not shown in the movie.

Aside from that ability, he’s also deadly in hand-to-hand combat and an expert marksman which he showed in a cool sequence in the movie.

He’s real name is Christoph Nord but changed it into David North when he joined Team X. He was originally known as Maverick before becoming Agent Zero.

Bolt looks weak. Is that all there is to him?

Dominic Monaghan Chris Bradley or Bolt has the power to absorb electricity from the atmosphere and can manipulate it to do a variety of effects. I don’t know if it includes communicating with electronic devices as was shown in the movie but yeah his power seems lame.

He is also excellent in armed and unarmed combat and took on the identity of Maverick after the original Maverick was killed by Sabretooth.

He is portrayed by Lost’s star, Dominic Monaghan.

Who is Stryker’s son again?

Short answer: Jason Stryker.

In the film, Stryker mentioned that his son is a mutant and is in fact Weapon 1 (although from the comics Weapon 1 is really Captain America).

Anyway, if you remembered in X2: X-Men United, Jason was the wheelchair-bound kid who has strong psychic powers and was able to control Professor X to use Cerebro to kill mutants all over the world.

Actually, not much is known about Jason Striker in the world of comics. He was loosely based on the character Mastermind for that second X-Men movie.

Who’s the chic who can cover herself in diamonds? Is she really Kayla’s sister?

Short answer: Emma Frost.

Her name is Emma Frost and she shouldn’t have that petite physique. She is one of the hottest and voluptuous babes in the comics (IGN’s Hottest Comic Book Babe in 2005). Hahaha.

Emma and Kayla

Anyway, she is not related to Kayla sister. Maybe they made it that way because like Silver Fox (and Jean Grey), she also has the telepathic which was not shown in the movie. Actually she’s one of the most powerful telepath rivaling Professor X.

Her ability to transform her skin into diamond state is already a secondary mutation. The CGI effect in the movie looks kinda silly.

In what part did Stan Lee made his cameo in the movie?

Stan Lee has the habit of popping up in Marvel movies but in this film, he didn’t show up so don’t strain your eyes looking for him.

So what are the special endings for X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

Daken fighting his fatherDue to the leaked workprint of the movie, Director Gavin Hood hinted that there will be two different easter eggs after the end credits and they will be randomly dispersed in different cinemas.

The one we saw was that of Wolverine in a Japanese bar speaking to the bartender. In the comics, Wolverine settled down in Japan and marries Itsu where they had a mutant son, Daken. Maybe the next installment of Wolverine?

The other one is a scene showing Weapon XI’s (Deadpool) hand crawling through the debris towards his decapitated head with the stitches on his mouth gone. His eyes open and he whispers “Ssshh”. A Deadpool movie like Elektra perhaps?

There seems to be another Deadpool ending wherien a man in a black trenchcoat picks up Weapon XI’s head asking “Who the h*ll are you supposed to be?”. Camera pans and shows us Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) well and alive which leads us to the conclusion that Weapon XI is not Deadpool.

So what’s the next Marvel movie?

If you click on Stan Lee’s link in IMDB you will see the list of upcoming Marvel movies.

The next Origins movie will be that of Magneto but is slated for 2011. For next year we have Iron Man 2 and Nick Fury. For 2011, we’ll also see Thor and probably Spider-Man again.

Well that’s it! I’m not that much of a Marvel comics specialist so if I have some incorrect information, please let me know.

Saw it twice. Very nice. Can’t think of a better Wolverine than Hugh Jackman. And yep, Gambit looks a lot like Willy Wonka. Maybe the stick he’s using is a chocolate covered wafer from the Wonka Chocolate Factory. LOL.

calvin: glad you liked it too. saw the comments sa IMDB ang daming di natuwa. oh well, nice performance pa rin from hugh and liev.

  3. Pipo says:

Hands down to Hugh. He’s the man! No, the animal! The man?! Whatever. =p

Gambit was sooooo cool. I remember watching X-men cartoons when I was young (that was in ABS-CBN then) and Gambit was there. Jubillee too. And Rogue wasn’t really young.

I felt happy when Prof X was shown. I felt sad kasi nung namatay sya (but of course we know that he isn’t really dead).

I’m so looking forward to Magneto.

  4. metalman 137 says:

It does show Agent Zero using his ability in the movie when he killed the old couple that helped Logan, when Logan escapes the explosion Zero calls for the helicopter and uses his ability running to it then jumping into the helicopter.

  5. metalman 137 says:

Another thing I’d have a hell of a time if I had bolt’s power.
