Boracay Day 1 Disaster

Don’t worry, we’re alright and we’re safe here in Boracay.

What a first day though. I think it was Boracay at its worst. Hehehe.

Our flight to Caticlan left on time from Manila and it was raining lightly so no cause for worry. We touched down smoothly in Caticlan and the ground was dry but the weather is kinda gloomy.

So far so good

Walking to the terminal it started to rain… and rain…and it rained hard but it didn’t last long. We were able to take a tricycle to the port without any problems.

At the port I asked the coast guard if it was safe to cross because it was a bit wavy and he said it was and there are already a lot of boats crossing. So we rode the boat and despite the waves and a bit of rain, we arrived at the beach in 15 minutes.

Then it REALLY rained

So when we’re about to leave the boat, it rained so hard that our umbrella was useless. We stayed at the boat for a bit and waited it out. I’m getting hungry at this point so I told my wife that she use the umbrella on herself and our backpack while I carry our luggage which I think is water-resistant.

It was still raining hard when we boarded a tricycle and I sat at the back which doesn’t offer too much protection from the rain. By the time we got near D’mall, I was already drenched even with my jacket on.

Flooded streets of Boracay

The road is already flooded and I can’t simply drag our luggage along so I had to carry it to the place where we’re staying. If you’ve been to Boracay you know how D’mall is also filled with sand so when it rains, it gets muddy and there were puddles all around. Should’ve used a duffel bag instead.

Appetite lost

When we got to our hotel, we were told that we have to wait 2 hours before the room is ready. We just dropped our things there and went to nearby D’mall for lunch.

Puddle-filled D'mall

It was still raining at that time so we brought our umbrella while looking for a place to eat. Places are packed since tables outside cannot be used due to the rain. The rain can really screw your appetite if restaurants are made for open-air dining.

We ended up eating at Andok’s with a puddle on our feet while flies escaping the rain kept us company. :(

Non-stop rain

The rain just kept on along with gusty winds. We simply stayed in our room sleeping it off and had a late dinner at Mang Inasal. It was still raining at that time by the way.

So basically that’s how our first day went. The waves were strong, the weather was gloomy with gusty winds and unrelenting rain. Not to mention that we had to wade through a mini-flood just to get to our room.

    Hi Calvin,

That was really a bummer of your trip, well anyways that may be the risk of setting of to Boracay in June. Anyways, I know you made the best of the opportunity.

    God Bless…

yup, been raining like mad with regular brownouts here on Boracay.

I always feel regret when I hear of people taking the time and effort to come here on vacation, and especially after your painful trip (which was worse than the usual aggravating trip)…. only to hear of them availing of such lowclass fare as andoks or mang inasal. Thats like visiting Paris and dining in taco bell. When you come here, you deserve to enjoy the experience to the fullest.

I completely sympathize about the rain and restos, their indoor seating (if existent) in not a often pleasant place for dining, especially when everything is soaked. For rainy times, I would recommend Rhumbas by the carousel, they have an open front and it doesnt get stuffy in there like those other places with plastic sheeting. Cyma, Valhalla, Steakhause, Aria, and Paradiso also have good airflow in rainy times. Summer place would be an excellent spot if they would stop butting up those plastic wind/rain barracades all the time, just too hot and stuffy in there! You should also checkout the Craftys Rooftop resto. Rain, wind, or shine… its always a good place with a nice menu of local, intn’l, and indian food.

Thanks erap. We went to andoks because we just want to fill our stomachs. No point spending alot if youre not in the mood. The following days we tried aria, gasthofs, tacos at manana, grilled lobsters by the beach then finally angus steak at rumba’s. Hehehe. Sarap!
