How to jailbreak your iPod Touch with 3.0 firmware
The long (err short) wait is finally over. The iPhone Dev-Team did a great job in releasing a working jailbreak for the iPod Touch and iPhone.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch with the 3.0 firmware using redsn0w 0.71 for Windows. First, the things that you need:
an internet connection- iTunes 8.2
- redsn0w 0.71 for Windows (10 MB using torrent). For other mirror links, click here.
- Original 3.0 firmware (258 MB). Make sure you get the correct one for your device.
You can still restore your files, notes, music and videos from backup after upgrading and jailbreaking 3.0. However, it seems that my app data such as e-Books for Stanza and files for Discover did not make the restore.
While downloading, I suggest you backup your iPod as well. Open iTunes and sync.
Finished downloading? Great, let’s start!
Restore your iPod with the original 3.0 firmware
In iTunes, Press and hold SHIFT then click Restore. Look for the original 3.0 firmware that you just downloaded.

This will take a few minutes so go ahead a grab a snack or something. After it’s done, you just successfully upgraded your iPod into 3.0. Don’t restore from backup yet.
Time to jailbreak
1. Start redsn0w and Browse for your original 3.0 firmware, the huge file you downloaded. It will process the file for a few seconds.

2. Once successfully identified, Click Next. It will start to prepare the jailbreak data.

3. Make sure Cydia is checked and click Next.
4. Power off your iPod (press power button for a few seconds until you can power it off) and plug it into your PC. Click Next.

5. Get ready to go into DFU mode. Just follow the onscreen instructions. Don’t be too conscious with the timing, they put allowances on the timer.

6. Once in DFU mode, it will automatically start jailbreaking your iPod. After a short while, you will see in your iPod that it is Downloading Jailbreak Data. Wait for a few minutes (mine lasted 5 minutes) for it to finish.

To check if you’re successful, fire up your iPod and go to the second page to check if Cydia is present. I suggest you open Cydia and do the necessary upgrades for it.
Restoring your iPod from backup
Before you restore, if you have cracked games previously installed, you need to add AppSync for OS 3.0. This is the equivalent of miPatch in 2.21 to upload .ipa files into your iPod. Read this guide on how to install from Cydia.
Open iTunes again and go to your device to restore from backup then do a sync.
You should be able to see all your apps, songs, videos and photos intact. Try playing a music and shake your iPod to shuffle to a new song.
For themes, you have to download Winterboard from Cydia (click Featured Packages, Winterboard is near the bottom of the page) again as well as the themes.
Enjoy your Jailbroken iPod Touch with 3.0!

calvin: hey thanks man! Appreciate it!
Hi Calvin,
what if this is my first time to jailbreak? will i need AppSync for OS 3.0 to upload .ipa files later?
can i still play my itunes downloaded apps after i jailbreak?
no need for appsync if all your apps are legit. but if you’re planning to install cracked apps then you will need appsync eventually.
Is this still working?and after jailbreaking, where can I download cracked games?thanks in advance. =)
hey jes yep it should still work. as for your second question, check out my guide here.
thanks a lot!
successfully jailbroken my itouch..
im trying to download and install cracked games..thanks a lot!
=)
tnx tol! my ipod touch is now updated. however, i still have a question…is there really a need to continue with “jailbreaking” using redsnow?? ?
You want to jailbreak your ipod touch because you want to customize it with themes or if you want to install third party apps or cracked games.
a ok. tnx man! just wondering, where did get all these terrific stuffs???! last sunday i inquired for 3.0 upgrade for ipodtouch, however, they do not know yet that OS 3.0 exists..
Hello. My internet connetion is under a proxy server. Is there anyway to bypass the need for an internet connection? Or to fill the proxy settings to work?
Actually, I’m not sure if redsn0w uses the internet connection to jailbreak your touch but it doesn’t have a setting for proxy server. I think it gets the setting from your Internet Explorer so make sure it’s set up there.
The IE proxy servers are ok. And if I disconnect the LAN cable, the redsn0w closes immediately after I push “next” (after verifying the ipsw).
I hope they release some sort of alternative.
By the way, thank you.
does this work for itouch 1g 1.1.5?
yes it does. just make sure that the firmware you download is for the 1st gen.
thank you so much. ive been looking for hours since last night how to jailbreak my itouch. thanks!
i did it! thanksss so much!
Way to go! Good job!
