Jailbreak for 3.0 firmware now available but…

UPDATE: Jailbreak for 3.0 is now out. Read my guide here if you’re interested.

When I woke up this morning I was excited to see that the iPhone Dev team has just released their PwnageTool for the 3.0 jailbreak. But upon reading further, I learned that the tool is only available for the Mac OS X and with a few caveats.

pwned The just released PwnageTool for the Mac OS X cannot be used to jailbreak iPhone 3G that requires an unlock hack like yellowsn0w. No problem if your iPhone 3G does not need unlocking.

It will work fine with the iPhone 2G though. No need to unlock or anything, just follow the instructions to jailbreak.

iPod Touch 1G is good to go as well. Use Pwnage Tool to create a firmware image and restore using iTunes.

No support yet for iPod Touch 2G.

Hopefully, the QuickPwn for Windows will be released really soon. *fingers crossed*

Read the iPhone Dev-Team Blog for links and other info about this release. Hooray for Mac users.

I will be closely looking into further developments so stay tuned.

  1. rex says:

I downloaded custom firmware 3.1.2 for my ipod 8gb 2G, and performed a manual restore using Shift+Restore in itunes. Itunes ws verifying this and says the software is not compatible with the device. I know it is the right download, because I performed the jailbreak on my ipod 16gb 2G and it was a breeeze. Apparently Apple has just released a newer firmware 3.1.3 so I am wondering why I cannot perform the custom firmware resotre to jailbreak this ipod. Please helpf? thanks in advance, rex
