Susan Boyle did not win Britain’s Got Talent 2009
When Susan Boyle first opened her mouth to sing during her audition, people thought that she’s somebody special. After she was done with her piece, they knew she’s going to win Britain’s Got Talent.
She’s got it all by the time the Finals rolled in. Exposure from different TV stations all over the world, she’s one of the most watched video in YouTube and most of all, she got the voice and personality that draws fans around the globe to support her.
However, Susan only got the runner-up title even after flawlessly singing her audition piece, I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. It would’ve been great if she could sing something that we haven’t heard from her yet.
Piers said it was the greatest performance he’d seen in Britain’s Got Talent but it wasn’t enough. Nevertheless, she’s still happy and was gracious to be a part of the show and acknowledged that the best people won.
So who won Britain’s Got Talent?
The ten-strong dance group, Diversity, from Essex and London got the most votes to win Britain’s Got Talent. And I really, really think that they deserved it!
Their performance was utterly unbelievable! Their outfit, choreography and their precision is one of the best I’ve seen from a dance group. You gotta see their act!
It was a standing ovation from the audience and the judges afterwards. Amanda said that they’d blown Flawless (the other dance group in the finals) out of the water.
My favorite part was some of the guys posed as BGT buzzers. Even Amanda stood up in approval after that part. Hehehe and the two kids (are they really kids?) was pretty awesome too! I must’ve watched their act half a dozen times already.
Third place goes to Julian Smith
I could never be happier for the 28-year old saxophonist, Julian Smith to get 3rd place. Even if he didn’t win, big things will be in store for him after the huge exposure he got from the competition.
He played Somewhere from the classic Broadway musical West Side Story. It was the same piece he did during his audition and it still sounded amazing. It was relaxing and can really stir your emotions as Amanda puts it. I don’t mind listening to it around the house on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
What about my favorites? Stavros Flatley?
As usual my most favorite act in this competition, Stavros Flatley, didn’t fail to make me smile and laugh. I’m sure the Queen will love them as well if they had win instead.
The out-of-shape, father and son dance duo, Demitri and Lagi may not win the competition but what they gained is much better, an inseparable bond that stemmed from this once in a lifetime experience.
You could really see the happiness in their eyes for doing something special together and it will surely inspire all the father and sons out there who had seen them.
Forget about any career after the competition, just watch their restaurant boom when they get back.
What about the others?
Shaun Smith
Like Susan, 17-year old Shaun Smith also sang the same song he did during his audition. His rendition of Ain’t No Sunshine was pretty good but the “wow” factor was just gone. If he sang something fresh instead he could’ve gotten more votes in with his cool and soothing voice. I would say his life would still change drastically afterwards.
Aidan Davis
I felt sorry for this kid. After getting into the finals just the night before, he had less than 24 hours to practice for his last act. With not much time to work on, he danced to his audition piece of Flo-Rida’s Low again, but this time he added the special effects they gave him during his semi-final performance. He was still good but it was nothing really special anymore.
Hollie Steel
10-year old Hollie sang Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from The Phantom of The Opera. It was surprising for her to be hitting those really high notes at a young age. It was good but not that much for me. Still good for a 10-year old though. Even Simon said she was fantastic.
Flawless, 2 Grand and Shaheen Jafargholi bored me so I won’t be writing about them. Click on their links if you want to view their acts.
