Asus 1005HA battery is not as good as advertised

Asus claims that the 6-cell Li-ion battery of its EeePC 1005HA can give you a generous 10.5 hours of straight computing. A good rule of the thumb for a “real-world” value is to subtract 2 hours from the advertised value.

8.5 hours straight is not bad right? Well according to a 1005HA review from HotHardware, the battery performance you’ll get from it is slightly around what the 1000HE (advertised at 9.5 hours) can give you.

Here’s the result of their test using BatteryEater Pro for some “real-world” values.

The 1000HE beats the 1005HA by 9 minutes. For real-world application (WiFi, bright LCD, video playing), both the 1000HE and 1005HA can give you around 6.5 hours.

So what does this mean? Why is the older, yet cheaper 1000HE slightly better in terms of battery performance? If I have to guess maybe it has something to do with the build. The 1005HA is more compact and slimmer than the 1000HE so maybe the heat doesn’t dissipate as well as the bulkier one.

Nevertheless, the Asus EeePC 1005HA comes highly recommended by HotHardware. They’re just miffed at the false advertising with regards to its battery performance.

    8.5 hours is good enough.

calvin: yup but the thing is 1005HA is advertised at 10.5 hrs while the 1000HE is only at 9.5 yet both have the same battery life per charge.

First, was the battery broken in properly? It takes a few charge cycles to get a battery to full capacity.

Second, Asus actually states on their page what the 10.5 hours is based on: Eee PC Super Hybrid Engine Power-Savings mode (under-clocked), 40% LCD brightness, Wi-Fi off, BT off, camera disabled.

Probably not what most people run at in normal conditions, but it’s nice that they’ll tell you what conditions will get you that battery life.

The 1005HA comes with a 3 cell battery rated at 8.5 hours but it also has an optional 6 cell battery rated at 10.5 hours. Does anyone know what battery was tested here?

Hi, I bought this new goody (still waiting for it) and wanted to buy an extra battery with it for use on long haul flights. The distributor didn’t know the part number, Asus website doens’t mention it and I cannot find it anywhere o,n internet. It should be the 6-cell 10,5 Hours. Can anybody help?

Hi Eddy, I’m not sure with the 1005HA but I’m guessing it should be the same as the HE. The 6-cell on my 1000HE has a rating of 7.2v 8700mah and that’s for the 9.5 hours.

So you should aim for a similar or higher mah rating for your battery. It should be printed on the battery itself.
