Michael Phelps’ coach blames loss to the Arena X-Glide suit
In the recently concluded FINA World Swimming Championships, Olympian Michael Phelps lost for the first time in 4 years. Not only that, Paul Biedermann, the unknown German who beat Phelps also broke his Olympic record in the 200m freestyle.

Paul Biedermann in his Arena X-Glide Suit
Biedermann clocked in at 1 minute and 42 seconds beating Phelps by 1.22 seconds and took away his world record in the 200m freestyle (1:42:96). The German swimmer also broke the world record in the 400m freestyle previously held by Australian Ian Thorpe.
Phelps’ coach Bob Bowman blames the loss to Biedermann’s high-tech suit, the controversial Arena X-Glide suit. He says that Phelps, who still wore last year’s Speedo’s LZR Racer, won’t be competing unless FINA does something about the new generation suits.

Michael Phelps coming only in 2nd place
Well, just last Tuesday the FINA bureau listened and banned the likes of the Arena suit in future competitions but unfortunately those changes won’t occur until April next year.
According to Phelps:
“It’s changed the sport completely. Now it’s not swimming. The headlines are always who’s wearing what suit. It’s not swimming. I’m looking forward to the day that we’re able to call our sport swimming again.”
The coach sounded like a real whiner. Anyway, why can’t they just swim in good old fashioned swim trunks?
