How to download YouTube videos on your iPod Touch
One of the most requested feature for iPhone and iPod Touch is to download videos off YouTube. Yes you can view the streaming videos but what if you want to view them again or show them to friends when there’s no internet connection available?

Here’s a guide on how to download videos from YouTube for offline viewing using an app called MxTube from Cydia.
You need a jailbroken iPod Touch for this to work since the app is not available on iTunes. 2.2.1 or 3.0 firmware will do just fine.
1. Open Cydia and select Featured Packages.

2. Now scroll down till you see MxTube and go select that.

3. Install MxTube.

4. Once done, exit Cydia and launch MxTube.

5. Click Search to begin looking for videos to download.
6. Select your video and click Download. You can choose Stream if you just want to view the video.

7. Now select the Download option. I always choose High (WiFi).

8. While the video is downloading, you can start searching for more videos to queue them up.

It will continue to download in the background so you can do other things but make sure you stay connected.
9. When done, go to Videos to view your downloaded YouTube videos.

That’s it! You need to launch MxTube to view your videos. It will not go to your iPod’s default video location.
If you wish to back them up into your PC, you need an iPod File Explorer (like DiskAid) to transfer them. The files are in .mp4 format.

Hi, I followed the steps correctly and was able to install MxTube, however I always get the error “cannot connect to youtube” everytime I search for videos, any ideas?
I get the “cannot connect to youtube” everytime as well.
that’s odd. I just downloaded a video from my wifi connection at home. maybe something wrong with your wifi connection? can you view youtube vids using the built-in youtube app?
Yes I can view vids from the built in youtube app on ipod. I was checking the comments from Mxtube site and most people are talking about the restrictions made which may have been causing the said error. Oh well..
ahhh. i wonder why I was still able to download the vids. hmmm.
hey calvin its me again. hehehe
how do i find my downloaded youtube vids using MxTube but my file explorer is WinSCP. Any idea kung san ko makikita yung mga vids ko?

hi calvin!
happy sunday to you!
i’ve been searching for circulo verde when i accidentally saw the ipod touch guide in your web.. i’m really not a techie person but i have some gadgets for personal reasons.. ipod classic (i got this to store videos for my 4 y/o daughter), ipod touch 3rd gen (to store medical apps and nursing docs since i’m a nurse and now an iphone 4 3.10 version (my husbands x’mas gift last year) which was just activated but not yet unlocked (from Canada).. i’m really having some trouble with my ipod touch and iphone right now.. i’ve downloaded applications in the ipod touch using my old laptop. i just got a new laptop, i’ve transferred my purchases from the ipod to the new laptop but everytime i connect my ipod to the laptop, i can view my apps but it appears blurred and i can’t click on them. usually you just need to check or unchecked the apps you want to sync in the ipod di ba?
.. my 2nd problem is: i got my iphone activated at greenhills and just the same i can view the apps in the laptop but can’t click on them. i’ve authorized my new laptop with my itunes acct but i can’t transfer the purchases to my laptop. is it because the apps were downloaded from another account?( acct of the person in greenhills).. is there also a way i can change the settings of my iphone to manually manage music and videos without erasing its apps? and last, can you teach me how to transfer the music from my ipod and iphone to my itunes library? i’m having a hardtime doing it.. or even transferring them to my computer?
thank you so much for your time..
more power to you and Godbless!
