How to download YouTube videos on your iPod Touch

Here’s a guide on how to download videos from YouTube for offline viewing using an app called MxTube from Cydia.

You need a jailbroken iPod Touch for this to work since the app is not available on iTunes. 2.2.1 or 3.0 firmware will do just fine.

1. Open Cydia and select Featured Packages.

6. Select your video and click Download. You can choose Stream if you just want to view the video.

7. Now select the Download option. I always choose High (WiFi).

8. While the video is downloading, you can start searching for more videos to queue them up.

It will continue to download in the background so you can do other things but make sure you stay connected.

9. When done, go to Videos to view your downloaded YouTube videos.

That’s it! You need to launch MxTube to view your videos. It will not go to your iPod’s default video location.

The files are saved in mp4 format

If you wish to back them up into your PC, you need an iPod File Explorer (like DiskAid) to transfer them. The files are in .mp4 format.

Yes I can view vids from the built in youtube app on ipod. I was checking the comments from Mxtube site and most people are talking about the restrictions made which may have been causing the said error. Oh well..
