HP ENVY does a MacBook Pro clone

If you’re somebody who wants the looks of a MacBook but is more comfortable using Windows, then you’re going to love the HP Envy. Or you can simply format your Macbook and install Windows but I’m writing about the HP Envy here.

Behold the HP ENVY 15

HP ENVY 15HP did a wonderful job of cutting out the Apple logo on a MacBook Pro and slapping their HP brand on it. Seriously, doesn’t it look like a MacBook to you?

It also has a magnesium alloy unibody enclosure which is coated with aluminum that mimics the MacBook’s texture but makes it a bit lighter. They even used MBP’s single glass clickpad!

Here are the jaw-dropping specs:

  • 15” widescreen display (1920 x 1080)
  • Core i7 processor
  • Up to 16GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM
  • Can support 2 solid-state drives (SSD)
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 graphics with 1GB dedicated VRAM
  • Nightvision VGA Webcam
  • Windows 7

I don’t care about the Paris Hilton webcam but the Core i7 quad-core processor will run around MacBook Pro’s Intel Core 2 Duo. The 1GB RAM for its graphics chip will also make it a nice gaming laptop or a hi-def video viewing machine.

It’s only an inch thin and weighs around 5.18 which is slightly lighter than MBP’s 5.5 lbs.

HP did not include an optical drive but that’s acceptable these days.

The price? How about a whopping $1,799. Right up the MacBook Pro’s alley. No word yet on the exact specs you could get on that price (like HDD, battery life, etc.) but the HP ENVY will be available on October 18.

The HP ENVY also comes in a 13” model by the way.

windows machines usually have better specs at the same price…. it’s the OS that brings them down.

… now if Windows7 delivers, then Mac will really be in for a fight. otherwise the i7 core and dedicated graphics will be just print on paper.

    c’mon microsoft!

different experience talaga ang Mac OS and Windows so it’s up to the user na talaga. I know somebody who was given a macbook but still opts to use his PC laptop more often. :)

@calvin.. maybe because 3rd party support is so so on the MAC… nokia, SE, samsung, garmin, etc… almost all delayed their releases of software for the Mac and even then limited functionality is often the case.

As for me, i can’t leave Windows because of Windows Live Writer

I think I’ve found my dream laptop it’s time to save up hehehe! Call me old-fashioned I’m still kinda hesitant with it not having an optical drive. But its so sexy and powerful. I love it!
