I introduced an iPod file browser application called DiskAid in my guide to uploading themes on your iPod Touch. However, I found out that DiskAid is no longer free so I looked for an alternative iPod browser.

iPhoneBrowser is just like DiskAid where you can copy and paste files to and from your PC to your iPod provided that you know what directory to navigate to.

This is pretty useful for manually backing up files that are not included in iTunes’ own backup such as themes, videos downloaded with MxTube and other app data.

For iPhone users, this is pretty useful in uploading ringtones and other sounds.

Here are some useful directories that you may want to add to your favorites for easy navigation:

WinterBoard Themes – /Library/Themes

MxTube videos – User/Media/MxTube

For other App data – var/mobile/Applications and search for your app among those numbered folders

Unfortunately for Stanza users, you can’t simply transfer your eBooks to the Stanza directory using this browser. Stanza uses a complicated file system for its eBooks.

If you’re not comfortable tinkering with your iPod files manually, I suggest you use this app sparingly. It’s pretty easy to delete a critical folder that can mess up your iPod
