Typhoon Ondoy Photos: Animal Edition
Nope, I’m not talking about the crocs in the government taking advantage of our current situation but there are news circulating social networking sites that crocodiles may have escaped a flooded zoo during Typhoon Ondoy.

Here’s a photo (from Facebook) of a crocodile taken from Cainta Greenpark providing proof that there are indeed crocs swimming around. Rescuers be careful. Here’s the official report regarding the incident according to first-hand witnesses.

Another shot of a croc after the flood. I’m not sure if it’s the same croc as the first one but it’s a different witness this time. Got the image from a Facebook account.

It’s no surprise too that snakes are seeking higher ground like this one here. Better watch first before clinging to any form of a rope.
Save the pets
Rescuers are reporting that flooded areas in Marikina is covered in a foul stench due to dead animals still buried in the mud/rubbles.

It must have been heartbreaking for the owners who can’t save their pets because they are having difficulty saving themselves or their family.

Animal group, PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society), has opened their compound in Quezon City to shelter animals while their owners are still rebuilding their homes.

The PAWS shelter is located in PARC-Aurora Boulevard, Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights Quezon City (http://parc.mefindhome.org for map and directions). Volunteer veterinarians are on standby.
The public may also contact Nita Lichauco, PAWS chief, at 724-1986.

As much as I feel sorrow for those people who died and suffered in this tragedy, I feel awed by these creatures who struggle to survive too. I will pray for those who are still suffering from this tragedy and wish them good health. Let us not only help our fellow men but the animals which are also suffering.
