The Semiconductor Expo… just kidding, the Search Engine Marketing Conference Philippines 2009 (SEMCON 2009) will be held on October 1 and 2 and I was wondering if a newbie blogger like me should attend such event.

Well I was able to interview Abe of Yugatech who’s also a part of the event and asked him what’s in it for amateur bloggers if they attend the conference.

So if you’re interested in attending, please indulge this brief interview:

C: I’m a newbie blogger who’s having difficulty earning from Google Adsense. Is this event for me?

A: Definitely. This conference will help you learn the tactics to increase search visibility and site traffic and analysis.

C: Cool! But I’m not familiar with terms like SEO, SEM, SERP, CPC… do I need to study before attending the event?

A: No need, maybe just the basics. Just be familiar with the acronyms and the terminologies so you won’t get lost on the conversation.

C: Gotcha, so what tracks do you suggest for newbies like me?

A: Twisted Twitter Tactics, SERP Factors, Analytics and Video SEO are top of mind.

C: And after this 2-day event, will I be ready to apply as an SEM consultant for companies?

A: Not really, you still need to be able to implement the learning you got from this conference on your own. That way you can show clients you have case studies and previous experience.

C: Oh.. bummer. Hmm will you giving a talk? On what topic?

A: I’d do the Measuring Online Media Values track. I will also be doing the Site Clinic Panel.

C: Sounds boring. But even if I find the tracks too hard to understand, will i get my money’s worth on food?

A: We have bottomless coffee!

C: I don’t drink coffee.

A: …

C: The price is a bit steep for students. Any discounts?

A: I think it’s 20% but could go up to 50% if you’re nice and have good grades. You might want to contact fiera@info.com.ph for student discounts.

C: No more early bird discounts?

A: Yeah, sorry.

C: Anyway, will i get a shirt that says, “I paid 9 grand to attend SemCon and all I got is this shirt”? Or are there any freebies for the event?

A: We’ll raffle off some stuff. They’re still secret. Definitely not just a t-shirt.

C: If I see you can I get an autograph?

A: Sorry I don’t do autographs.

There you have it folks. The price to attend the event is a staggering Php9,500 but there’s a way to earn free passes by joining Yugatech’s SemCon 2009 contest. Each pass already include meals and conference kit as well as bottomless coffee.
