Use different titles with the All in One SEO Pack

Some people (like me) thought that the popular All in One SEO Pack is a passive WordPress plugin that will improve your ranking in Google’s search result. Well it’s not, you have to manually input the fields to make use of it.seotip

Here’s a simple Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tip for all you WordPress users who installed the All in One SEO Pack but don’t really know how to use it. The plugin can be seen at the bottom of your Edit Post page once installed.

It’s really a nice tool to have if you know what it can do. But first, just a brief explanation on how Google determines where to position your post in its search result.

Google gives high priority to the <title> tag and the <h1> tags of posts to determine its relevancy against search terms. The more relevant those two tags to a search term is, the better it will rank in a search result.

If you look at the source code of a typical post, both <title> and <h1> have the same value which is a waste of tag usage.

For example

I had this post about our experience at Makansutra. I used “Food Trippin’ at Makansutra” as my title which I think would catch attention to my loyal readers. However for those using Google to search about Makansutra, they wouldn’t be using “Food tripping” as a search term.

If I’m a person looking for info about Makansutra in the Philippines, I would be using “Makansutra Review” or “Makansutra experience” + “Philippines” as my search term.

But as a blogger, I want a catchy title for my readers as well as a relevant one for those arriving to my site via Google.

A solution

This is where the All in One SEO Pack comes in.

Now I can use “Dining Experience at Makansutra, Philippines” as my <title> tag and “Food Trippin’ at Makansutra” as my <h1> tag. Check it out:

And here’s what my All in One SEO Pack field look like. I simply used a search-friendly title for my post. Notice that I can also key in wrong spellings of “”Makansutra” that people might use so that my post will still pop up in search results.

And here’s the effect once the page has been indexed:

This is the most basic but powerful use of the All in One SEO Pack. There are other things that you can do like add META tags and descriptions for your posts. Here’s a video tutorial on how to use the All in One SEO Pack.

Of course you don’t have to do this to all of your post but if you feel the need to use two different titles, by all means do it.
