adidas King of the Road 2009 Running Expo experience

According to my friends and other reports in Facebook, Day 1 (Oct. 17, Saturday) of the adidas King of the Road Running Expo was a disaster. Some of the singlets weren’t delivered on time and it pissed a lot of people. They also didn’t expect the volume of runners going on the first day; not to mention the 3-day sale going on at Megamall which made it hard to find parking.

Anyway, we went on Day 2 at around 11:30 AM when it was less crowded and the lines were really short.

It went much smoother that we got our singlet and race packets in a very short time. We didn’t think that the program would start for a bit so we went out and just came back at around 3 PM.

At 3 PM, the program was already underway but there were still a lot of empty chairs in the hall. We missed the Hydration 101 and Cardio Exercise part.

We were able to hear runner Jojo Macalintal give some tips in running especially for beginners.

The meal stub for carbo-loading is sponsored by KFC. Depending on the availability, you will get a 1-PC Chicken, Crispy Strips with Twister or something like this:

how many carbs can you get from this?

Yeah! Late in the afternoon, it’s down to a bag of Nova and half of Twister. Hehehe. At least KFC’s Krusher was unlimited as long as it was available. But all along I was hoping for pasta and mashed potatoes for some real carbo-loading.

There was also a mini-fashion show showcasing some of adidas’ running apparel.

Because some people who registered didn’t stay long, the raffle draw was a bust. Instead, they just held some kind of contest for the remaining audience to win the prizes. In effect, we won a Lungcare pack, an adidas personal kit and a couple of Globe Tattoo prepaid kits. Yeah!

Ani de Leon

Later in the afternoon, we get to hear Philippine National Triathlon coach, Ani de Leon. This is the one that we were waiting for. She gave pointers about basics in running, the correct posture, feet motion (striking), breathing and arm movement and was able to answer some questions.

After that, we left and grab some dinner before heading home. The event wasn’t so bad but I could use some more carbs. Hehehe. I really feel sorry for those who went on the first day. I don’t know how that felt but those who went on the 2nd day were quite fortunate.

See you on Sunday!
