What went Fit ‘n Wrong

We just completed our 2nd 5km run earlier to day and it was satisfying despite some booboos from the organizers. There weren’t a lot of participants (other races are going on today) compared to the adidas KOTR so I thought it would’ve gone smoothly.

fitnright Nope but they do have their merits though. In my opinion I think the pavement around SM Mall of Asia is much better than our route at the Fort. The electronic tracking device on our race bibs for accurate timekeeping was cool too.

Here are a couple of things went wrong. I hope the organizers, CEMG, will do a much better job next time but it’s forgivable since this was their first race event I heard.

1. Late start.

A lot of runners especially old-timers don’t follow Filipino time. If they say gun start at 6 AM then they should be running at 6 AM. Turns out they have a program going on at 6 AM. I’m all for stretching workouts and announcing race instructions but they should be given before gun start.

It’s funny that some 10K runners went on ahead even without the actual signal from the hosts who didn’t know that the race was already underway. Hosts –> Fail.

2. Stampede at the Fit ‘n Right claim booth.

When you reach the finish line, they have this booth where you can claim your Fit ‘n Right goodies (the watermelon flavor was surprisingly good by the way). The problem was that there’s only one booth and the place got crowded easily.

When they ran out of packed goods (they have to put stuff in a plastic bag you see), it was every man for himself diving into boxes of Fit ‘n Right juices. Even non-runners who can jostle their way can get through the goods.

We only managed to get a handful of Fit ‘n Right juices instead of the whole package (there were other Del Monte products in there). Now I know how it is to be in a disaster relief center. Hehehe.

What could be done? How about giving us the goods when we get our singlet and just supply maybe 1 or 2 bottle after the race? Or how about having three claim booths one for each race event?

Ft 'n Right Fun Run 2009

So there you have it. Overall it was fun running with friends and having breakfast afterwards. CEMG, I hope you’ve learned a lot from this experience for the next race you will organize.

* Thanks Dodge for the title. Hehe. Thanks JoQ for the pic.
