Are netbooks ripe for the fashion treatment?
Netbooks are becoming a staple gadget for all kinds of folks and with its portability, it’s not uncommon to see a lot of people bringing it everywhere. Just like handbags, fashion-conscious owners want their netbooks to have style, class and personality.

I wouldn’t be surprised if netbooks become an essential accessory in fashion shows in the future. But being a shirt and jeans guy, why am I posting something about fashion? Eww… anyway…
Manufacturers are teaming up with well-known designers to infuse some style into the drab world of netbooks. No more solid colors and bring out those textured finishes.
HP led the way of fashionable netbooks with the Vivienne Tam Edition of its HP Mini models. They also tapped the services of Tord Boontje to add some designer’s touch to the HP Mini.

Instead of simply changing the outer aesthetics of the netbook, Sony went a bit further by introducing an unusual form factor with their Sony Vaio P series. It’s not as functional as the ordinary netbook but it sure is fashionable.

Lenovo allowed its customers to choose from a variety of designer decals for their Ideapad S10-2 netbooks upon ordering. Textured designs are available to their other laptops by the way.
How about Dell? Well aside from the Shrek-inspired netbook, the company commissioned world-renowned artist and designer, Deanne Cheuk to create designs for their Dell Inspiron Mini. Cool design, same boring specs.
She also created designs for the Dell Design Studio notebooks if you’re interested.
The pioneer of netbooks, ASUS, is late in the show as their Eee PC Seashell doesn’t quite cut it despite being slim and sexy. What they did is had designer Karim Rashid reinvent the aesthetics of the Eee PC Seashell.

The Eee PC Seashell Karim Rashid Collection features a soft-textured exterior with fluid waves that would look real good if it comes out of your pink Bottega Veneta. This collection sports the new Intel Atom N450 by the way and is the latest fashionable netbook at the time of this writing.
To the other netbook players out there, stop being boring with your designs.
So what do you think? Should style and fashion be a factor for you when purchasing a netbook or even a laptop? Not this shirt and jeans guy. Hehehe.
